Deseret New Marathon. I entered this only Monday as prior to that, I was uncertain how my achilles would be in its recovery. Thankfully, injury recovery has have been getting better so I thought I would run, despite less than ideal training, in large part to keep my streak of running DNews since 2003 alive. I decided I would just go and see how things went, most importantly not pushing to any injury. At the start, I held my hands up so I could notice myself in a photo. It worked (see below).

| 6:11 | | Headed out, just following behind Allie.
| 2 |
| 5:58 | 12:10 | Just following Allie, pace was fine.
| 3 |
| 6:03 | 18:14 | Still behind Allie, I'm using auto-splits which were behind a bit by this point.
| 4 |
| 6:17 | 24:31 | Miles are going by fast.
| 5 |
| 6:52 | 31:24 | Holing back a bit, knowing my training has been poor..
| 6 |
| 7:14 | 38:38 | uneventful
| 7 |
| 8:12 | 46:50 | Did not labor too much on hills.
| 8 |
| 7:39 | 54:30 | I think this is the split where the race crests Little Mountain.
| 9 |
| 6:26 | 1:00:57 | I think this was about the most comfortable mile of the race for me. | 10 |
| 7:02 | 1:07:59 | Missed an aide station, as I dropped the power aide in the transition -- perhaps I should have stopped.
| 11 |
| 6:47 | 1:14:46 | Still feeling alright, despite not much good training at pace.
| 12 |
| 6:48 | 1:21:35 | Mentally feeling alright, but already not up to holding pace for sub 3:00.
| 13 |
| 6:50 | 1:28:25 | Noted half (not Garmin but mile marker) around
Half in 1:29:40
| 14 |
| 7:22 | 1:35:48 | Walked this aide station to try to get down more power aide.
| 15 |
| 7:15 | 1:43:03 | I should have decided to run tough, but decided at this point to not press my luck for injury.
| 16 |
| 8:03 | 1:51:06 | You can see I'm already taking it way too easy.
| 17 |
| 7:30
| 1:58:36 | Letting people pass.
| 18 |
| 8:39 | 2:07:16 | As I've been slowing dumb idea comes into my head to go ahead and walk this uphill on Foothill rationalizing a nice break and to safeguard the achilles
| 19 |
| 7:39 | 2:14:56 | I never really get going again.
| 20 |
| 8:10 | 2:23:07 | Slacking big time
| 21 |
| 10:03 | 2:33:10 | Major walking break -- what was I doing?
| 22 |
| 7:30 | 2:40:40 | I've got to learn to keep running even when it doesn't seem to matter.
| 23 |
| 9:48 | 2:50:29 | Embarrassing.
| 24 |
| 9:12 | 2:59:41 | Keep justifying my laziness on don't get injured grounds.
| 25 |
| 10:03 | 3:09:45 | no comment
| 26 |
| 9:12 | 3:18:58 |
| 26.2
|
| 1:07 (6:24 pace)
| 3:20:05
| All my resting made this part of the run very easy. I had some left in the tank.

Overall, glad my achilles held up great. Pleased no new injury. First half was decent. Terrible second, more mental looking back on it now.
Great to see some of the bloggers!
