I got out and did my long run today since I figured I was well carb loaded after a a little too much stuffing and pie yesterday. I set out to run an out and back 15 mile run. I decided to take it easy on the way out and then try and run a negative split on the way back. The one catch: a 300 foot drop in elevation on the way out and therefore a 300 foot increase in elevation on the way back.

I ran easy out and turned around at 59:07. I picked it up on the way back and did the second 7 1/2 in 56:39 for a total 15 mile run in 1:55:46, avg pace 7:43.

Rhett, amazing run!!! That's a pretty big hill to climb on the way back.

Man!! You seriously kicked some trash on your long run! Gotta feel good about that.

From Smooth on Fri, Nov 28, 2008 at 22:53:27

WOW, you ran a negative split with an elevation gain to boot. I just mosey around on my long run. I'm sure you burned off all that loaded carb and then some. You are incredible!!!

Wow negative splits I really need to work on that. Do you try for negative splits on most your long runs? I always have to run up hill to my house so this would be hard to do the last few mile but maybe I could speed up somewhere near the end.

Kathie, yes I do try for a negative split on all my long runs. I usually don't have to do the the second half more up hill than the first though.
