I went to the gym, jumped on the treadmill, set it at 1% incline and 7.1 mph (8:28) and ran for five miles.  I nice easy recovery run.  I don't know what I'm recovering from, but it felt good.  Tonight I'm going to get some speed work in at the track.  After reading Fly's speed work the other day, I am pumped to get some in myself.

Oh I cant wait for the day when a 7.1 is a nice easy pace.... I am not sure it will ever come. I know what you mean about fly's posts and wanting to run fast after you read it. I just wish reading the posts would make me faster!

Rhett...

So if 7.1 is an easy pace, what is a hard pace for you?

If I'm doing a tempo run between 5-8 miles I usually set it at 9.0 a shorter tempo run sometimes I set as fast as 9.6. if I'm doing mile repeats on the treadmill I set it between 10.0 and 10.5 depending on how I feel. Every once in a while I'll set it at 12.0 and run an all out mile. I get some strange looks when I do that. The crazy thing is the treadmill at the gym goes up to 15.0, I've never gone faster than 12.0 though. I don't want to fall off and hurt myself.

Rhett...

I can imagine that you would get strange looks while running a mile at 12.0 mph. Some people just don't understand how crazy we are.

I've heard that some treadmills go up to 15 mph, but I thought it was a myth. I wonder how many people can actually hold that pace for more than a quarter mile.

We bought a treadmill earlier this year with a commercial motor and it goes up to 12 mph. I tried it once at that speed and just about fell flat on my face.

Ya at the gym I use to go to it would also go up to 15 on some of them. I have ran at that speed in the trekking class they call them. And we only hit that speed for like 10-30 sec at a time. And to do it you work up to it. Most done even dare go over 10 speed though. And that is a great clip too. Watch out though the sweat gets flying LOL.

that is true. when i get off the teadmill at the gym after a hard run, it is gross. I don't the the others appreciate it. luckily they have spray cleaner and paper towels to clean up after yourself, making it a little less gross.
