I started my rehab training this morning.  I put on my shorty wet suite, found a rope (thanks Paul for the article which talked about tethering up for deep water running.  it really made it better.),put on my aqua jog belt, tied my rope on and then to the ladder, and jumped in the pool.  I warm up ran for 5 mins. then alternated 2 mins hard with 2 mins easy for 22 mins and then cooled down for 3 mins.

Total run 30 mins, no clue how far, no milage on the shoes!  I think I will be able to do this.  It really felt a lot like running just without the pounding.  I even got into the mental zone of running a few times.  Hopefully I can keep up it for a month or how ever long this foot takes to get better.  I need to get back to my core training as well.

Nice report. I've never done the water running, but you will soon become my expert consultant. Keep getting better.

You've got some dedication. I'd use it as an excuse to take a break! I know what you're thinking though, it sucks to lose all of that fitness and start at ground zero. Sounds like you probably are getting a better aerobic workout than my post-marathon runs. Keep it up!

Good to hear you're able to get some work in.

Rhett, how did you feel after the water run?

From Teena on Fri, Apr 24, 2009 at 16:40:18 from 67.177.20.13

Okay Rhett,

So ... I need an aqua belt (where do i get one?), a rope, water shoes (or did you go bare foot or drill some holes in an old pair of shoes?), and that's it ... right?

Walk me through this. If possible I want to try it tomorrow.

I already had an aqua belt that I purchased on-line a year or 2 ago. They are not to expensive. Your feet never touch the ground, so no shoes are needed. All you really need is the belt and a deep pool, but I really liked being tethered with the rope, so I do recommend that. Then you hop in and just start running like as close as possible to the same form you use on the road.

Okay ... I'm going to go buy one. Are they big and bulky? I have this visual of one of those plastic booster seats that kids sit in.

You are tiny Teena, so make sure and get one that is small. I don't remember if they even had size options, but I sinch mine in about as small as it goes. You live in the big city, maybe you could go to a pool fittness store and try one on. Canyon says she knows of some place where you can get them. I think she said, all the local pools have them there for use also. I just use my pool in the backyard, but it is much warmer here than there.

You have a pool? I am so jealous!! At least you don't have to worry about making a complete fool out of yourself.

I'm already trying to decide what would be the safest time for me to go the gym -- in other words, the least exposure. :)

Let me know when Teena, I've already offered to post the pics. :)

Count on it Paul!!

(YEAH RIGHT!!!)

Yep, he has a pool. That will make next year's party at Rhett's house for the Havasu Half all the more enticing!

YAY, you got started on the rehab. Keep it up. I actually have a pair of aqua shoes I bought years ago for water aerobic class. I think it might give extra resistence. GOOD JOB!
