I run this race every year. I needed about 15 miles today as a part of a marathon taper and the speed work seemed like it would be helpful. A new guy on the local scene, Steve Anderson, took off at a blazing pace, I haven't seen him at the local races before. Right  behind him was Jesse Dunn, an 18 year old track speedster. they gapped me fast and I was left to run this all by myself in third place. Fortunately I had one of my students in my gen chem class running as a bandit as part of my "beat the professor" challenge, where they get a free t-shirt stating they beat me if they can beat me in a race. We ran together for about 2 miles then he pulled ahead and beat me by about a minute (althoush since he ran as a bandit he didn't get an official time). He earned his t-shirt as he threw up after finishing :-) . First time I have had to award a t-shirt for my challenge, bummer!!. For the record, he is 22 and I am 48; I may have to start giving myself an age handicap for these challenges as I get older and slower...

Did a 1.8 mile warmup and another 7.1 miles right after the race to get my 15 for the day. My left foot is starting to act up again and my calves hurt as well. icing everything right now. good thing I have a couple weeks to take it easy.

Nice Job Prof! A great sign that the fitness is great. A taper should take care of the aches and pains.

My college coach put on a 5K every summer. The deal was that anyone who could beat him would get a free donut. The problem was that he was a sub-14 guy back in the day, and at age 40 could still run pretty quick. But every year he had to put out more and more donuts. It was both sad and sweet at the same time.

Oh, and nice job today.

Good job! Make sure you give an A to the kid who beat you.

There's no substitute for good "old" speed!

Congratulations!

Great job! Nice time! Too bad Keith wasn't there it probably would have been close. Sorry I missed you down there. I only saw you run by as Paul and I were running a cool down after the 5k. You must have been out on your second run when I got back. Good luck in Mesquite.

Sheesh, nice job!! Your time has to be some kind of record. That's amazing.
