Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I should've run a marathon Saturday...my legs would feel better than they do now :) The descent on Lake Mountain trashed my quads to say the least. So, since it isn't high training time I'm going to sit back and let them heal.

Also, my baby has been sick with a cough so I can't take him to the day care at the gym. Well, the perfect solution was me pushing him in the stroller around the track inside the gym. We were both happy and a good steady walk was about all my legs could handle anyway :) 60 min at a good pace.

Then I got on the bike with him in the stroller next to me (the bikes are on the track, so I could get away with this!) and I chatted with and played with him as I read and cycled for 60 minutes. Then I stretched and we left.

In the grocery store I called my friend to ask her to keep my Kindergartner for a few minutes for me until I got home and she told me that our friend whose son had been battling HLH for 2 years and gone through 2 bone marrow transplants and that we thought was on the improvement scale had passed away last night (Sunday).

The rest of the day is a blur of emotion and tears (and oreo eating). I don't know what to say or how to make it better. I want to take all her pain away. I want her to feel whole again. I want her to feel peace. My heart is just broken for her. The gospel is amazing and healing, but sometimes it doesn't stop the pain we mortals feel at times like this. I can only hope and pray that she is able to let the Lord carry this burden and speak peace to her soul. Shoes I never want to walk in. I brought them a bunch of food and treats to eat lunch before they headed down to St George for arrangements. Both sides of the family are there and he will be interned at Veyo cemetery. It will be bitter sweet running by in October, bitter sweet. But, I'll always have that warrior in my heart! He was a true warrior that kid. Fought hard to the end and always had a smile for you. I don't know what more to say, my heart is broken and I just wish I could do more. Sometimes just listening and being a shoulder to cry on is good enough, but I still wish I could do more. No one should ever have to bury a child, no matter how old that child is. You just shouldn't have to do that.

Walking on the track again with a sick baby in the stroller. We're headed to the doctor this afternoon :( He was coughing so hard last night I got thrown up on a couple times.

The first 45+ min of walking I would walk some, and then tried to run a bit. I eventually got to run one, walk one. My run was more of a walog (walk/jog), but at least it wasn't walking. My stroller shakes if you go too fast anyway, so it was a good way to keep myself in check.

Then after an hour-ish Kelli did her weight set with running between and the last couple she slowed and waloged along with me and the stroller :) Since she was counting laps I know I got 2 miles in with her and so the other mile I'm giving myself for the broken up miles. Not too shabby. Still sore and slow, but it is coming back.

I tricked my Sister in law into taking Adam for me :) okay, she is really just super nice and was willing to take the recovering sicky into her home this morning (all her kids are in school during the day). So, I met Smooth for the Urban Trail Loop!

My legs are still not fully functioning from Lake Mtn, but it felt great to get out on a no-pressure easy run this morning - especially with GREAT company. I really wish I lived closer to Smooth and could run with her every morning.

The weather was fantastic, except the strong South wind. Except that it blew out the inversion, so I won't complain...too much. Found out later we'd followed Jun's footsteps from a few hours earlier with a mutual friend that I didn't realize was a mutual friend. Such a small running world! :)

Another round of the Urban Trail Loop, but this was an early one with the Newtons - Chad, George and Kimberly. I was working hard to keep up, but managed to get the AP under 9mm. Quite a feat for the way I've felt this past week with these quads! It was nice to have everyone a little sore and worn out.

AP: 8:58 splits: 9:36, 9:20, 8:41, 8:47, 9:03, 8:44, 9:07, 8:26 - I actually felt GOOD at the end and almost went home and ran more...almost.

Went to the gym with Adam after I got kids off to school, because I needed to move again to wake up from my morning nap. We walked the track with the stroller (he is doing lots better, but his cough still doesn't sound good), then I did the bike for a bit - maybe 45 min. Then Sara joined me and we did a good core workout while Adam watched a movie on her phone. Perfect.

More baby in the stroller on the track. The fact that he only got 6.5 hours of sleep didn't seem to phase him at all! ugggghhh.....

So, I pushed him around and around that dumb boring track. Getting old. However, I started running (because I was bored, but you can't run very fast at ALL with the stroller or it shakes like crazy) and noticed that he was starting to fall asleep when I ran...so I kept running. About 30 minutes later he was finally asleep! I enlisted the help of a lady on the spin bike to tell me if he was asleep or not as I passed. Success!

That meant I could do some biking too! Got a good read and some spin time in...about 30 minutes.

I'm SO over this kid being sick! He is feeling better, but sleeping and eating are still slow coming back. Mama is tired.

After a LOOOOONNNGGG Friday (curtain project was just too much!) and going to bed with a headache and stressed out to the max I crawled into bed with some Advil in my stomach hoping that Saturday's trail run would do me good.

Oh, and did it! Just getting out for a few hours to RUN without stroller and baby and with good company on the trail up to View Benchmark I was just in heaven. I have now placed a pair of trail running shoes on my Christmas wish list!

Met Jun, Dorsimus, Jun's brother and someone else I'm forgetting (this is what happens when you don't blog for 3 days!) at Chevron and then we caravaned up to the trail start. I was grateful to drive those 400+ ft of gain :) The trail is MUCH more runnable than Lake Mountain! Some spots where it was steep enough I put my power hike into use, but still working like crazy. Battled the wind, but being close to the mtn it helped. The wind wasn't nearly as bad on the peak as I thought it would be!

Me hitting the Peak. Yes, Craig had been waiting for like a half hour for me :) Okay, not really, but at least I wasn't last this time. 47:10.

I was SO excited to be at the top, I had to do a peak jump for Scott who had to miss the run!

When we started back down I didn't realize how steep the up was. But, at least it didn't kill my quads. I did have to scream for my life a few times sliding on the slick mud, but overall it was wonderful! I now know why these guys do this one a few times a week. I'm in love...totally platonic, but love the same! :) The last couple miles I was right with Jun's brother and chatted with him for a while. I didn't even realize we were done until I saw the cars! TT: 1:25:07, I was the last one down (8 miles round trip). Thanks for letting the pansy girl tag along with the Boys Club!!!

My daughter did the tri class again this morning and I was hoping I'd get there in time to do the bike and run with her...and I did! Despite my muddy shoes and lack of a change of clothes (so I was hot for inside!) I did 30 min on the bike (14 miles - hard push, high cadence!) and Lauren cranked out 11.6 miles in the 25 min time they gave them.

Then we hit the track and I just ran with Lauren and kept her moving. She did a great job and finished 3 miles! I really think she was running faster than 10mm, but they said it was 30 min...I think they cut the time short, because last time she did 3.4ish miles and walked some. She NEVER stopped to walk this time and kept a good pace. You should've seen her pick it up when they shouted 5 minutes! Love that girl!

While everyone was just waiting around for the coach to tally up the totals (they count your swim laps -200yd course in 30 min; bike miles -25min; and run tallies - every 3 laps). I decided I wanted to push out one fast mile. I grabbed the stop watch and had Lauren time me. I did it in 6:43...awesome. Nice to see some speed come out of my legs when they are tired.

At the 'awards' Lauren was given Top female kid award! She'd done overall the most in the time given! I was SO proud of her! Way to go! Then, she didn't even take the candy. She opted for the toy. Mom beamed again for healthy choices. She is on her way! I can't wait to see how she does this next year in Triathalons!

A total of 12 miles and 30 min biking with a top award? Yeah, this called for some frogurt! AFTER stopping at the running store for a few minutes to add to my Christmas list :)
