Short-Term Running Goals: Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal. It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :) I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!
Long-Term Running Goals:
Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.
Run for the rest of my life!
Personal: 4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!
Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free! I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front. After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM. Favorite Blogs: |

Okay, I'm letting this cat out of the bag...so to speak. A few hours after the race Saturday I got a deep aching mid-thigh pain that wouldn't go away and that hurts bad enough that I 'limp' on my leg. I searched and searched for what the problem could be and I kept getting thrown back to 'stress fracture' option. Called and went to the PT on Monday and she had an orthopedic doc look at me, he was suspicious enough that he sent me to get an MRI. I was also told to not do any running or impact until they knew the results - thus the goose eggs this week. Never heard from them, but called yesterday and found they'd had the results since Tuesday afternoon and hadn't called (thus my annoyance yesterday!!). Finally heard from him just a few minutes ago....Good and bad news; Good news: no stress fracture, the MRI showed everything including muscle tissue normal (This indicates I'm a hypochondriac and make up pain :) ) Bad news: the doc said that sometimes the pain is referred from other areas of the body, namely in this point the hip. So, he wants me to come in for an x-ray and discussion of such on Monday to check and see if there are any developmental abnormalities in my hip that could be referring pain to the thigh/knee. The reason he's going this direction and not to muscle is that when my PT examined me on Monday she couldn't reproduce the pain with any tests muscular wise. The other explanation he gave me was to consider this a 'freak' overuse pain and to just limit activity until the pain went away, obviously he liked that explanation as much as I did! So....I guess we're waiting now until Monday. The one good piece of news that I liked was that he told me I could do what I wanted as long as it didn't cause pain. If its only pain I can push through that :) So, I guess I'll be running tonight and tomorrow, the pain usually is just at the beginning and then it goes away (or at least that's how its been before when I've felt the 'twinges' of pain the past few weeks). A lot of rambling, but y'all seemed so interested :)

| | Took a little test run today, didn't bring the garmin, I guess it's been too long since I've run. Every stride was painful/annoying, on a scale I'd say it was a 2/10 or so - it really started to hurt when I stopped and walked just from the mailbox to the house. It seems to get worse after I stop; however, it was buggin' during the run as well. Funny, but I've just decided I'm a hypochondriac and am making it all up - it doesn't really hurt because there is nothing wrong with my leg, so I'll run and do whatever I want because there is nothing wrong - it's all in my head! Got home and took the family out on a bike ride, fun easy ride - but took my Garmin for fun. There was one point I was going easy on a flat and looked at my pace, I was going slower than Walter runs a marathon - gave me a good chuckle that I can't even ride a bike faster than he can run! Total of 6 miles with 400 ft total elevation gain and an AP of 6:41, fastest pace was 1:27 - YEE-HAW! :) If anyone knows how to switch the Garmin to 'bike mode' I'd appreciate some help on that! Leg felt a little achy on the 'push' of the pedaling, but it was a TON better than the run. Now that I've stopped it again seems to be getting worse - if there was any REAL pain and I wasn't just making it all up that is.

Decided at about midnight to give it a go. I wish I would've been at group this week, because I would've come to help out with the volunteering early as well...I guess that's what I get for being lazy. Anyway, lots of people to chat with at the beginning and I got to start with Julie and Michelle which was GREAT because I had someone to chat with and pace with; however, at times they got too speedy for me and I had to drop back. Leg pain was there, but minimal (2/10). It was a fun course with rolling hills and a few good uphills, I hate to admit it but I really am starting to like the short uphill pushes in races, because I feel strong to push up them - as long as I can get a break at the top :) I hit a GREAT stride around mile 3, it felt freeing, the pace felt good, I was able to push past people, and just hit a good groove (yes, still pain, but you get used to it after a while). Then, my wheels finally fell off around mile 4.5 (top of Lover's Lane), the thigh pain moved down and surrounded my left knee. I was pushing the pace with 2 guys and I had finally pulled ahead on the hill, but after about another .25 fell off their pace as well. I think they finished a good minute or more ahead of me, I was just doing what I could - I didn't want to push any harder than I needed to. Only 2 other people passed me on this stretch, so my good groove was well spent :)
AP: 7:55, splits: 7:44, 7:35, 7:50, 7:52, 8:14, 8:12, 8:13 (last .17 recorded on Garmin)
