Short-Term Running Goals: Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal. It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :) I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!
Long-Term Running Goals:
Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.
Run for the rest of my life!
Personal: 4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!
Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free! I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front. After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM. Favorite Blogs: |

Got my lazy butt out of bed early for a good 8 miles. My goal was to keep the pace at or below 8mm - I want to do shorter runs with a faster pace, quality not quantity this week. I did a warm-up mile, stretched (to see how stretching pre-run will affect ITB) then took off for another 4. It was up and down through the 'hood, you wouldn't think my neighborhood is too hilly until you try to bike or run it! I dropped Lucy off at home then hit the stake 5K route that goes past my house. I did it 'backward' to have a 1/3 mile downhill home, but DANG!! The uphills were tougher than I remember running it the right way. AP for entire run was 8:11, not too bad for the hills, but not as good as I would've liked. I couldn't look at my garmin, because I had to keep my sleeve over the garmin to cover my FREEZING hands!
Then I hit the gym for step class...today I decided that this class really is a GOOD x-training class - keeps my HR up high for nearly the whole class. Afterward I hit the TM for 2 more speed miles - did .5 at 8 mm then .25 at 6:35 mm; It was good, until the stinky TM's kept turning off, blowing a breaker turning off. Frustrating to have to keep jumping around, so I 'm sure I did more than 2, but got it done either way.
I finally got to the last 7-10 minutes of Ab's class, stretched and came home for a yummy protein bar. I'm going to speak this outloud so I will do it...I am going to eat better so that my body is in top health for Ogden - NO MORE JUNK DAYS!!! And please feel free to ask and check on my persistance with eating well. I need to start eating to run and NOT running to eat :) |

Met the BBK's the morning, it was fun to run with the 'Boston' crowd! Everyone wore their yellow Boston shirt, I almost felt like I was there :) Did 5 to warm-up with Misty...Thanks girl for keeping those never ending hills tolerable! Then met at the track for speed work...my legs are dead, I think between Saturday and yesterday and getting no sleep they just didn't want to work. Days like this morning when I can barely push under an 8mm, I wonder how in the world I ran 13 in 7:40 mm!!! AP for the run was 9:27, 10mm for warm-up then 8-8:20's for speedwork, and 1 mile cool down at 9mm.
Hit the gym for some resistance - still tired, little motivation, so I did the class. Less intense ressistance, but more cardio. I needed the energy of the class to keep me going this mornig. |

| | I don't know if it was subconcious or what, but my alarm didn't get turned on last night...DANG!! I missed my run this morning, good thing I did wake up early enough to get ready to catch my flight. Thought about running tonight in WA, but I'm having a good time just visiting with relatives :) MUST wake up tomorrow for a run, but I'm a little weary of running in a strange town...afraid I'll end up in the bottom of some swamp or dumpster! Will miss the BBK's tomorrow, especially with a run close to home and hittin' the hills :) |

I went on the most beautiful run this morning!!! Speaking with family, they suggested running around a lake a few miles away. They said it was a popular spot for morning runs/walks - boy were they right! It was wonderful...lots of people (I felt VERY comfortable) and a few runners. However, the landscape took the cake!! I was magnificent, I just was in awe at all the beautiful trees, flower, bushes and when I started there was a light fog settled over the lake. Lake Sacajawea is a long thin lake, about 3.5 miles around and trails to go under cross roads so you never had to deal with traffic. Threre were times I would run past some flowering bushes and just want to stop and smell them!! A rest day and sea level certainly helped my pace today...it felt very comfortable AP 8:10. I'd do splits, but they were all only like 5 seconds faster/slower than that - nice and consistant :)
Came back to the house and did my personal yoga class...then got ready for the funeral. It was a beautiful service and I'm glad I was able to attend. Seems like my Aunt will be moving to Utah soon and I'm really excited, because she is my late father's only sibling and I just feel so close to him when I'm with her! I'll be coming home tomorrow and hope to get up early enough to do a few more miles at the lake in the morning before traveling - I need to get some stress out before flying with 2 young boys!!! See many of you Saturday at JRP :) |

Stayed up way too late having a girls night with the cousins. It was fun..but running didn't happen this morning! So, I trucked 2 kids around the airport and home then them 2 car seats and a huge 'mother' bag on the shuttle to long term parking....It was a joke!! Who ever out there is a single mom day in and day out, you have my utmost respect!!!!! |

| | Well, it started out nice...then the rain got harder and harder and the wind blew more and more. It never got really cold, just wet! By the time I was done I swear I had lakes in my shoes!! A big THANK YOU!! goes to Smooth for helping me get through the run today because without her I would've slept in and been lazy and done NOTHING. It always helps to have someone expecting you. AP for the 16 miles is: 9:02 splits: 8:49, 8:44, 8:33, 9:45 (this is the hilly part!!), 9:15, 9:08, 9:16, 9:08, 9:10, 9:00, 8:48, 8:58, 9:03, 8:58, 9:08, 8:47. Great run and its always fun to have interesting 'weather' experiences...definately makes them more memorable :) |
