So, I did it!! Yea, another month, another PR :) okay, okay, I know this knocking off huge amounts can't last forever, but it really amazes me that just one year ago I ran this race in 2:09! I had a lot to prove to myself and I felt really good about my effort...now if I can just get my stinky ITbands to cooperate with me, I could maintain my speed through the last few miles NOT having to stop and stretch and making every stride painful. DANG!! Does anyone know what to say to a doctor to get him to do surgery so you don't have to deal with them anymore?!? I'm sick of them! Its been 18 months of dealing with them on and off, I thought losing 40 pounds would help, but nope...still fighting them 3 pounds away from goal weight :(
I don't remember what my overall placings were, but I can't imagine them being too bad - better than last year anyway :) My AP was 7:40, my best was 4:36 (holy moly!) and I had a total distance on the Garmin of 13.17 - didn't use my tangets well :) Here is a breakdown of the splits:
- 7:14 (even with not realizing we were at the start mat and then having to walk for 50 yards before there was room enough to run!!)
-7:06 (keeping up with Kelli)
- 7:03 (still keeping up with Kelli)
- 7:05 (Kelli's out of sight, because I stoped to 'swallow' water and she didn't)
- 7:35 (no more Kelli to keep up with, I guess I just slowed down...)
- 7:40 (staying steady even without Kelli - yea, I can do it myself! :) )
- 7:23 (gu'd at mile 7 with h2o - I should've grabbed 2 cups, I had sticky all over in my mouth until the next water!)
-7:50 (no idea why I'm slowing....)
- 7:30 (this seemed like the longest mile... 10 NEVER came!!! but time was good.)
- 7:59 (okay, this is where I'm having to stop to stretch those stinky IT bands!)
- 8:02 (I round the corner from Liberty park onto state street and the line of runners doesn't seem to be turning at the courthouse like last year...it doesn't REALLY go all the way up that stinky hill ahead, does it?!? - obvious issues with IT and mental capacity!)
- 8:49 (yup! It went ALL the way up the hill...the anticipation of the hill and the ITB's were KILLING me!! Trying to stay mentally strong and push out all I had!)
- 8:20 (able to pick it up a little downhill - stopped in front of the temple to stretch IT's and the sister missionaries wished me luck. That was the reason I was so fast!!)
- 8:11 (tried to pick it up to the finish and not let 'heavy breather' pass me - seriously, you could hear him when he was 50 feet behind me!! He did out sprint me to the finish...but only by 5 feet or so. My knees were spent, my heart and brain could've pushed, but my ITB's wouldn't move for loving or money! However, last year the run down Gateway was pure misery...this year I actaully enjoyed it AND it was 1/2 as long :) )
So, there it is...in a nut shell (okay not really). I had a great race and besides nursing those STINKY ITB's feel GREAT!!! I actually got to meet some 'fun' people who run under 8 mm - I've found most people that fast are too serious to have fun and laugh/talk in a race!
/557 for age group (wow, a ton in my age group!!)
