Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Well, I did it. I did the 10 miler just 2 days out from the half IM. I would never even think about doing this when I would be racing a half marathon, but I guess I'm just that crazy :) I have to remind myself I'm not really racing Saturday - just getting the experience. It is kind of like your first marathon. You just have to sit back, relax and enjoy the journey.

Alicia is running her first half 9/1 at "Only Half Crazy" half out here in Herriman. I actually runs right in front of her home. She is going to do great! She ran strong and consistent and pulled out the fastest mile of the bunch at the end (maybe it was me dragging her, but she kept up well!). I think if all goes well she could finish under 2:05, but I think that would scare her...so I won't say it :)

The Newtons were nice to stop and wait for us and Chad and Ronnie ran a bit with us at first, but I decided it would be best to loop the island at the lake and take the long way around the lake to add 2 miles onto the 8 mile Urban trail loop as opposed to tagging them on the end. So, we said good-bye to familiar faces and went at it alone.

It was a wonderful morning and I'm grateful I got out for the easy miles. I could tell they were easy, but unfortunately I thought we were closer to a 9:20 than a 10:00. Poo. I've lost too much and need my foot to heal so I can get back at it. SGM is pretty much going to be a stink fest if something doesn't change...soon.

Foot is a little behind now in the healing process, but I think by tomorrow it should be about where it was yesterday. So, I guess I can't complain too much.

AP: 9:56 splits: 10:31, 10:23, 9:55, 9:46, 9:29, 9:41, 10:12 (started the trail part and the change of surface I think made the difference), 10:06, 10:04, 9:16.

Now it is a waiting game until the Half Ironman Saturday! Provo Boat Harbor. 1.2 miles of swimming, 56 mile FLAT bike ride, 13.1 run. It will take me about 5-6 hours. Longer (and harder) than any marathon I've ever done....nice. I'm going to die, but like Chad said - it won't be such a bad way to go :)

Sounds like a fun run this morning Rachel! Sometimes we all just need a good mental health run.

I am getting excited for you this weekend. :)

From RAD on Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 10:00:36 from 98.202.23.178

Rachelle, all I'm getting is SICK! Seriously. I've got butterflies worse than any other race. I just know I'm going to get kicked in the head on the swim, biff it on the bike - get a flat or something and just stop and cry for a good 15 minutes when I realize I can't go on! poo. I don't think I can take it :)

From Nancy on Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 10:48:43 from 76.23.21.118

You are and awesome swimmer, biker and runner so I'm sure you'll do great at your half Ironman.

I think it is incredibly normal to have doubts when doing something for the first time. But you know that you can cover all of the distance, you know how strong you are, and you know how many people are supporting you and believe in you. One step (errr a stroke) at a time. You got this Rachel!

From Smooth on Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 12:33:38 from 75.165.251.74

Rachel ~ I totally agree with Rachelle. It is completely normal to have butterflies and sick to your guts feelings when doing something for the first time. BUT!!! You totally CAN DO IT!!! YOU"VE trained in all those distances and disciplines. You will have a PR no matter what! Believe in yourself because we all believe in you! I am so bummed that I have prior commitments and can't be there to cheer you. But I will be cheering for you in spirit and can't wait to get a text or call from you on Sat. GO GET'EM RACHEL!!! :) :) :)

From Brent on Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 14:16:49 from 168.178.30.155

Devine Miss M - yes, you will get kicked, not fatal, you will not biff on the bike, just ride smart when you go to pass someone, give them plenty of room just in case they vere towards you. Always watch the rode in front of you for rocks, potholes, etc. You are one tougher cookie, put on your big girl panties (as you said) no doubt, you will kick my butt and have a great race. It is a long hard hot day, just keep hydrated and gu or whatver, biggest factor. If I pass you on the bike, you will get a minus 1000 commando points, kick butt.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

Nancy, thanks!

Rachelle, ugghhh...it is just those pre-race jitters, you know? just multiplied by THREE! :) Thanks for the support though, I will remember it when I'm feeling lost.

Smooth, You'll be with me no matter what! I will try to remember the FUN we had last weekend and remember that it will be worth it!!

Brent, ONE THOUSAND negative?!? crap. I think I'm going in the hole on this one. What if I pass you back on the run? Do I get them back? :) It may depend on how they start waves. Usually men go first, but at Blackridge Athena went with the 40+ men...so maybe I might have a fighting chance! Still, I don't think my swim is strong enough to put me far enough ahead of you on the bike to NOT get passed. Crap. Now I'm gonna have to put those big girl panties on and GO! Can't let you pass me, if I even get out of the water first.
