Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Slept in, then went to the gym for kick-boxing which was a GREAT workout today.

Then hit the TM for 3.4 miles (we'd run three .2 repeats outside in kick-boxing). I put the incline up and set it at 8:30 pace. I've decided (hold your breath and sit down to take this!) that the TM may be VERY beneficial to me this winter. It will hold my pace on days like today when I want to slow down from sheer laziness, but know I can do it. I kept the pace and am no worse for the wear now! I need someone to 'force' me to hit those MP miles when my legs are tired. Plus, I think I struggle with uphills (surprise, surprise) and putting the incline up, even to just a 1 or 2% grade will help my legs learn to deal with a little hill in the midst of it all as well. Okay, that may be the only time you will hear me sing the praises of the machine I HATE....we'll see :)

Stretched well and even dropped in for some 'assisted' stretching at a chiropractor's office...this is SO SO nice, especially on the ITB!! I got this special treatment, because my hubby got stuck in like 3 different accident's traffic and didn't get home in time for me to hit their yoga class last night :( I really needed it today!

i'm not a fan of the TM myself, but they can be very beneficial in certain situations, as you mentioned. never done kick-boxing before, but it sounds fun...someday i will branch out! glad you got some good stretching from the chiropractor.

oh, thankfully its NOT the chiropractor. It's a massage therapist at his office :) She helps 'teach' a yoga class there on Tuesday nights where they do assisted stretching. So, since I missed it I went in begging for a few minutes. Thankfully, she must like me :)

I'm a little cynical about chiropractors...not sure about their whole approach to 'medicine'

You're liking the treadmill, eh. I can see how it would be beneficial in certain situations.

How very nice that you got the assisted stretching. I was brought up to mistrust chiropractors, but I go to one now who basically massages/stretches my legs and leaves my neck alone.

Devine, make Milly your best friend, rock n roll music while attacking those virtual hills.

massage and stretching I'm totally sold on...cracking and tweaking my back, not so much.

We'll see how much I like that torture machine when spring rolls around!

Brent, it's funny, but I've tried music, movies, tv, magazines...nothing makes Milly like me! However, I'm going to put out a hand of friendship this winter and hopefully she will receive it well!

I love that the treadmill has a name. Great sense of humor. I've heard it's not good to run on a treadmill at 0% incline, so having it at least .5 or 1 is the way to go.

They are great for keeping a pace though. That's about the only thing I miss from using the treadmill. That and the climate control.

Sorry to hear you missed yoga last night. It sounds like you're making up for it with the assisted stretching. I'm envious. I'd love to have some of that. I guess I'll stick to un-assisted napping instead :-)

Nice job, Rachel. That's one of the main reasons I like the treadmill. It keeps me going and you're right, even a 1% incline will work wonders on the hills.
