Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Another great run with the BBK's! I really have so enjoyed running with all of you, I feel faster and stronger than I have in welll....forever. The 6.5 or so was on GOOD hills for the most part and I tried to keep up with Kelli and almost did (except the 2 mile hill loop, Kimberly became my newest meet on that one!) Overall, she had a 8:40 pace and I couldn't believe it! I thought it was definately slower, because I felt so good. I really like to know at the end my pace and mileage and am toying with the idea of getting a garmin like so many other faithful runners, but am still not sold just yet due to cost and that I would hate to know that stuff in the middle of a run - especially a long one! I really like to run against myself more than anything or anyone, because I'm the only one I can ever beat; I just run my own feel good pace which varies sometimes from minute to minute. After the early morning I did the body building class at the gym and rode a stationary bike for 30 minutes and stretched well. Hamstrings seem to be loosening up a bit, but this morning it was my arch that had me troubled. I'm going to try to get my laundry folded so I can go to SL running company and get a shoe fitting and new insoles which I think will help as well. I've been running on the same insoles for about 9 months now (3 pair of shoes)! Feeling good and loving life, can't beat it!

Loving life, nothing beats that!

I really ignore my Garmin for the most part. I brought it on Saturday because they wanted us to, and then I did check it here and there to watch our pace---it is good for that! BUT, they can become ANNOYING!!! I have run without one since St George and just let Scott wear it (but now he has his own). I wear it about half of the time, and I have liked to look at what I am doing, but mostly AFTER the run!

Hope the rest of your day goes well. See you at kickboxing tomorrow!

Rachel,

Glad to hear you are enjoying running group. It has been a great way to meet encouraging friends and make running more fun. See you on Thursday for more fun running up and down hills.

I think there are good things and bad things about the Garmin. I like knowing the distance - it allows you to go where ever you want, not just on certain routes that you know how many miles they are. However, I think the pace information can mess with your head a little. You can configure the display, though, so that it doesn't show you pace, so you won't know during the workout what your pace is. That way you can just run at whatever pace feels good without worrying about the exact time. Then you can go back after the workout to check out pace. Anyway, FYI. As for cost, I know some people who have gotten Garmins off e-bay at heavily discounted prices. You could try that.
