Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Well, I was going to just swim today, but I couldn't leave only 43 miles for the week. I felt like a slacker. So, when Blaine asked if I was up for a run, I agreed...but had to do it early.

Met at 6AM and his son was unable to come due to a bad cold. Ran 33 laps or 9 miles and then headed home. No idea on pace, but I'd say it was similar to yesterday's 8:30ish

Grabbed Lauren and my swim suit. New mounatin to climb today. They were doing a 100X100 event at the rec center pool today. It started at 7AM and I didn't get into the pool until almost 9:00, so I knew I wasn't going to finish all 100 in the 3 hours, but I would do my best.

After 25 100's I was done...tired of swimming, my face and ears hurt from dumb goggles and cap...but it had been less than an hour. Crap. 3 more hours of this? Okay, I'll do at least 50! But, that seems wimpy to only do half and it is just under 3 miles (yd pool not Meters), so I settled on 60. That was my goal.

After those first 25 I was tired and took more breaks, my toes were hurting from where the fins rubbed (I'd do kicks/fins/paddles/pulling to mix it up), my hands hurt from the paddles and my throat was dry and hurt. I kept my whining inside because no one was stopping to listen anyway! But, then I noticed I had done 51 laps! My friend Diane let me borrow her awesome little waterproof ring lap counter so I didn't have to do it in my head. I only had 9 X 100 left. I could totally do this! So, I kept at it and busted out my last 100 in 1:45 to just go out with a bang. Well, looked at the counter and it said 59...oh no. That isn't happening. So, I did another 'cool down' 100, to make the counter right. I'm sure it was user error either in my head or on the counter, but either way now the counter verified my laps! The ladies swimming in my lane also think I did 3 or more 100's because of how many laps they swam after knowing how many I had...anyway, it is all water under the bridge. I'm just proud of my 6000yds or 3.4 miles swam today!!! A full mile longer than an IM. Not sure I'd want to jump on a bike for 110 miles and/or run a marathon now, but it was good.

My average 100 was around 2:00 and with fins/paddles it was 1:45ish. So, nothing super fast...slow and steady.

I think it will take a while for my body to feel the pain/effort from the swim, but I'm glad I did it! 3+ hours of workout today was plenty. I'll call that good.

Great job. I haven't swam in over a year. I need to get back into it.

43 miles is slacking? Geeesh, I've been SLACKING! You running that indoor marathon tomorrow? Good luck!

Devine, if I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times, you are a natural for an IM, just chuck you in the water, swim over 3 miles, darn good swim pace, would love to average 2 minute per 100, my pace is like 1:10 to 1:15. 3000 commando points, sweet. When are we going on the infinite team bike ride?

Great workout! I need a nap after reading it. Fantastic pushing through the mental block and pain and getting it done.

Fish girl!! You can run to my house then swim to bye-wing :-)

3.4 miles swimming. You must be a prune.

6000 yards!! I get angry over 3000 workouts let alone double that. Do you take in any calories on those longer workouts while you are in the pool?

From Burt on Wed, Jan 09, 2013 at 16:02:52 from 71.216.109.214

I think what Christi means is - That's a long time to be in the pool. Are you also soiling your suit?

Toby, yes I was hungry, but I'm always hungry :)

Nancy, I love swimming! It is always a great cross-trainer.

Scott, 43 miles on the tm/track are nothing compared to 30 miles on the mountain!

Brent, Swimming 3 miles with breaks when you want them is a lot different than in 2-3 foot waves :) I still need some convincing about the IM...but, someday.

Terri, I think endurance sports are all about getting through that mental block!

QP, hmmm...not a bad idea :) Might take me 10 years, but I'll get there.

Burt, yes that would be accurate :)

Christie, I probably should've. I ate a banana and some almonds between the run and swim, but then I only had cliff powder in water during the swim. If I took in more caloires I probably would've been able to hit it harder and get to 70 and not have to stop so much.

Burt, I'm a camel...of course I didn't soil my suit :)
