Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I don't want to swear on the blog, so I won't. I'm sick of not feeling it on the run...sick of it! I just want a nice, easy, run again...just one, is that too much too ask?

FABULOUS run this morning. Chad, Ronnie and George. I need to stop running with them, I'm just too slow lately and I feel bad holding them back while they take turns waiting for me/running with me.

At 2 miles figured out I didn't change my garmin from biking. Whatever. The AP for that section was 8:16 - things started out well.

The last 4 miles I just wanted to puke. Should've just done it. Then I could've stopped at 7-11 and gotten a slurpee and walked back to the cars. Oh well. Pushed through and finished, not in good fashion, but I finished.

Got in the car and took off...got turned around and had to pull over at the round about to puke. Ahhh, a good couple minutes of violent puking always makes one feel better.

THEN I stopped at 7-11 on the way home and got my Slurpee! The best part was seeing Kelli on her run and pulling over to chat...30 minutes later my husband called wondering if I was coming home. Ooops. Sorry Kelli, you had to warm-up all over again!!! Thanks for the vent session though. I really need to get a run in with you so I can vent more :)

AP: 8:48 splits: 8:16(avg for the first 2 that were on bike mode), 8:28, 8:53, 9:07, 8:56, 8:30, 8:34, 8:59, 9:09

Someone please tell me how to get back to my normal running self, I'm SO depressed and missing it!!

I am no pro with running slumps/injury recovery, but my advice to my football kids is to be patient, keep working to recover/improve and it will all work itself out.

From Burt on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 09:30:06 from 72.223.86.148

My advice is to stop being a baby. At least that's what I feel like Brent would say. No commando points for you!

From Rachelle on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 09:56:20 from 199.190.170.22

Oh Rachel I am so sorry you had a tough run. I think you need to remember that just two weeks ago you could barely walk and were on crutches. Be patient and everything will start to click again.

I am glad you got the slurpee!

From RAD on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 10:27:56 from 98.202.23.178

Preston, that is what I keep telling myself, but I still am having a hard time mentally, pushing through!

Burt, sorry...I left my big girl panties at home :(

Rachelle, patience is NOT a strength of mine :) I want it all right now! But, you are right...I should be grateful I can run 10 miles and not die, and that I can walk afterward. Oh, the slurpee was the only good part of the morning!

From Chad on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 12:42:57 from 168.177.153.60

I'm not the one to ask about getting out of slumps but I love a good puke blog.

From Chad Robinson on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 12:52:06 from 50.73.39.89

Oh man, I got trumped by a slurpee.

From Burt on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 13:02:24 from 174.235.128.13

Hi Chad.

From Chad Robinson on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 13:03:06 from 50.73.39.89

Well, hello there Burt.

From Burt on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 13:17:50 from 174.235.128.13

Oh, this is awkward. I meant the other Chad.

From Chad Robinson on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 13:18:40 from 50.73.39.89

Crap! Trumped again.

From Chad on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 13:27:21 from 168.177.153.60

Slurpees are pretty awesome. (Hi Burt)

From Toby on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 13:29:25 from 199.101.229.6

I think I left my mojo back in Ogden....did you? I have such a love/hate relationship with running right now too. But I think I would be more grumpy if I didn't do it (and 50lbs heavier instead of my 30lbs heavier). Hang on....just hang on.

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:22:24 from 66.232.64.4

I'll swear for you- SHITE!!!

You get puke points- Woohoo!

Hope you get feeling better soon.

From Teena Marie on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:29:46 from 65.130.107.219

Rachel~

I really think you will be back to your normal running self when the pain in your foot goes away. Probably even stronger and faster! SERIOUSLY you are in such AMAZING shapes. You are killing your tris and kicking butt with your cross training.

Hang in there, Baby! :)

From RAD on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:50:22 from 98.202.23.178

Chad, a puke blog is always good right? :) That is why I shared it :)

Chad R, okay, you didn't get trumped by a slurpee...it just won out today. If you would've turned to follow the lake road home, you could've watched the puke fest! You only missed it by about 20 seconds. Once I did that U turn, I knew I was going to lose it!

Burt, I knew as soon as I saw Chad responded what you were going to say! exactly what my husband would've said.

Toby, oh I will. I hate hating running! I feel ya though...good reasons to stick with it.

Scott, thanks for letting it out for me :) and awarding puke points...especially since I didn't get any commando points!

Teena, I can only hope. But, it feels like my cardio for the run is gone :( So, question...what is the best way to get the pain gone? I have Flector patches I'm using right now. That and a figure 8 KT tape job when I run. Soft insoles for arch support (the stiff ones like super feet give me shin splits), wearing a splint at night, rolling on a frozen golf ball and stretching 6-8X/day. I don't know what else I can do! The night before runs I'll take some Ibuprofen, but otherwise I avoid meds. Any other good suggestions? other than just not running (like a good PT would rationally tell me?) :)

From Chad Robinson on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:58:57 from 50.73.39.89

I'm thinking a Slurpee every 5k for Park City. Should be great fuel/hydration.

From Teena Marie on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:59:36 from 65.130.107.219

OTHER than not running? Nope. :( Sure wish I did though.

From NatalieK on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 16:00:29 from 24.2.101.184

There's nothing that I can add that hasn't already been said, I agree with all of the above comments. Patience is killer but your love will come back. I'm just glad to know this happens to other people. I'm just now liking running again after 2 months of duking it out. Don't give up!

From RAD on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 16:32:04 from 98.202.23.178

Chad, are you sure that wouldn't be OVERhydrating and just giving into the advertising world? :) But hey...it does have the sugar! There is a 7-11 almost on the course. Maybe I'll run ahead and get one for Smooth and I when we get to that point! :)

Tenna, poo. I thought for sure you'd have some tricks up your sleeve. I hate patience...and NOT running! I am, however, going to take the week after PC off completely (unless my friend needs me for a run that she is looking for company on) to rest for Utah Half (70.4, because we're better than just 70.3 IMs!).

Natalie , 2 months?...yuck. Maybe it will come back just before SGM then I can fly through that one! :) wishful thinking. but, I did once hear someone say it is better to be 15% undertrained than 1% overtrained! So...it just might work.

From Bec on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 20:12:41 from 70.115.203.100

Oh boy, this does not sound pretty. I am so so so sorry you aren't feeling it lately. Trust me, your mojo will kick back up to you. I love that you went to get a slurpee AFTER you puked! Nice breakfast. Can't say I have ever craved a slurpee after a run.

I will call you tomorrow.... PROMISE!

From Brent on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 20:29:27 from 66.7.127.67

Devine Miss M - 500 commando points for up chucking - maybe minus commando points for not listening to your body, take a day off running and do an easy swim or easy bike ride. Alright, are you sleeping in your medical boot? What are you doing for the PF? It would not hurt you to take the next three days off running before PC. Injuries suck, no whining, do the right thing.

Stay Kool, I want you at your best for the Half, B of BS Rools out

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 20:50:33 from 75.165.251.74

OMG!!! First off, I'm sorry you lost your running mojo and your stomach this morning. But heck, you went and got slurpee to make it all better, that counts for something! PLUS what the heck do you call a 10 miler with a 8:48 AP? I'd call it SUPER AWESOME RUN!!! :) :) :) I can't remember the last time I ran just one mile in 8:48. I agreed with Rachelle, you could barely walk two weeks ago...so quit whining and BE HAPPY!!! By the way, your pace scares me! Do you have any idea how SLOW I'm running these days?!!! Sounds like you're doing everything possible to facilitate the healing and recovery of your PF...other than the one most important thing which is REST!!! I cannot believe you ran 10 miles 4 days before a marathon!!! Be good to yourself! Think happy positive thoughts and all the wonderful races you've run this year! :) :) :)

From The Quiet Pirate on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 07:32:34 from 71.49.55.78

Patience, Obi-wan. Patience.

You are getting good paces in for running on an injured foot, but remember- it is injured so I agree with the others that say rest it until PC.

I'm not a doctor or physical therapist, but I did spend the night at the Holiday Inn Express.

From Chad on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 08:16:12 from 168.177.153.60

QP, you crack me up.

From Nancy on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 08:19:36 from 76.23.21.118

I'm sorry running is hard for you right now. I really know how you feel because I have been going though it for the past 5 years. All you can do is hang in there and do your best and be grateful that you can run.

From Kelli on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 13:37:59 from 67.172.235.55

30 minutes??? Really? Better go change my blog, I thought it was like 15. Time flies! Sorry your car got all wet...

Like I said, this is just the time of year for slumping and feeling like shizz. I hope things turn around soon for you, this weekend should be a good boost since it will be so much FUN!!!!

Do you go up early to get your race stuff or is it no big deal getting it the morning of?

From RAD on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 14:28:20 from 98.202.23.178

Becca, really? never? Slurpees are cold, wet and sugar! Only thing better would be if a snow shack was open that early :) oh...I'm still waiting for that call!!

Brent, I think you're right. I'm putting the kaibosh on running until PC, then next week as well. Today after the swim, my foot felt good. Swimming helps?!? how does that work? Anyway, I'm going to try and be smart and stop pushing myself when I shouldn't.

Smooth, you're right. I need an attitude change about it all. I should be grateful I CAN run, and 8:48 isn't bad, it just isn't what I'm used to. I want it all back, now. I'm SO impatient. I can't wait for Saturday. It will be SO nice to just relax and enjoy the run with you! No worries about pace...finally a GOOD run! :)

QP, I am just a young padiwan that needs direction. Since I stayed at the Best Western, I guess that is like a medical degree from Mexico :)

Nancy, I'm going to try and do that. Somedays frustration just gets the best of me!

Kelli, I don't know, it may have only been 15 minutes. I can't remember! I just remembered getting in my car at daybreak at 7:20, puked, stopped at 7-11, then saw you and craig called at 7;55. So, somewhere in there! I think I've picked up packet stuff up there before, and then one year Smooth picked mine up for me. I will have to double check though. Would you be willing to let me tag along in your car Saturday? You may have to wait a little while for Smooth and me to finish, but if you can't no worries.

From Kelli on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 14:31:19 from 67.172.235.55

Scott may finish around the same time. ;o) We are taking Amy, I will double check that she is not in any hurry at all. I am not, I just want to chill after it is over and eat some Kneaders (should I be able to ingest food!)

From RAD on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 15:26:48 from 98.202.23.178

Okay, just let me know. If she is maybe I could ride down with Smooth and just have Craig come pick me up at I-15. I haven't talked to her about carpool possiblities yet.

From JulieC on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 18:59:48 from 207.108.177.253

it is injury burn out-- been there for over 4 months -- hang on it will pass. Sleep and take runs easy. bike mode on your garmin affects your pace?? just wondering. what if I bike in run mode??
