Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Speed work again today. A little intimidating...5 mile tempo, outside on a gradual downhill. I had the course marked out in my mind and was hoping to keep a 7:20ish pace. But, I worried with 10 yesterday and a stomach not fully cooperating (I think it may be some of the meds/vitamins I'm taking at night that make me feel cruddy in the morning), I had my doubts. I was solo, and that played tricks too, but it was time to put on my big girl panties and get 'er done.

1 mile warm-up to get a little further west so I could do the full 5 miles without having to cross Bangerter (I didn't want to have to run over the skybride for my last tempo mile!). Yes, I live in the boonies...5 miles west of Bangerter. I had a friend once say that if the directions to your house in any way included Bangerter you lived too far West.

That warm-up mile was a 10mm pace - awesome, this is going to be great :P

Ready or not....

7:13 - most aided downhill mile, so a little fast but not too worried.

7:20 - ahhh, settle into pace.

7:15 - still feeling good, and have a flat stretch here where I'm able to still keep pace.

7:13 - this is really happening and I feel okay! Pass the rec center and wave to Kelli on the TM :)

7:04 - good drop at the beginning then fighting to the finish, because I know I'm done.

Finished feeling good and like I could've kept up a decent pace around there for at least a couple more. Good confidence booster since this was my biggest speed push before SL Half.

Then, the hard part...4.5 miles of gradual uphill home. Craptastic. I didn't want to push any pace, but just run feeling comfortable. HA! When I looked at the AP at the finish it was 9:53...yeah, I like the downhill :) Sour stomach all the way home. I think the meds and/or vitamins I'm taking at night are giving me the yucky gut. I didn't feel it on the speed work, but all the way home - blech.

Glad I was able to successfully complete the speed work AND I feel good about it.

Now I'm going to go to the gym and do masters swim. A good end to a good workout. I'll probably grab a short nap first :)

a couple of fun updates from swim: 40 second 50yd swim. awesome! learned to dive in from the platform and NOT lose my goggles!! my hair in my bun on the top of my head stayed dry under my cap today - my sauce of awesome to the swim day!

Rachel....YOU ROCK! Those were fantastic times and you were so strong! Those big girl panties get bigger every day (maybe I'll make you a pair of Strawberry Shortcake ones :) ). You should feel so confident going into SLH. Just believe!

Great tempo run this morning!! You are handling these workouts so well. With a short taper, I think 7:15 pace for the SLC Half is a realistic goal.

The cooldown did not sound fun. Get in a good nap!

Way to go Rachel! You crushed that workout! And you get bonus point for the uphill cooldown, for sure. :-)

Nice job. Craptastic is a great invented word. It made me laugh.

Watch out SLC Half, Rachel is coming woohoo!

Wow!! What an awesome tempo run!! You should feel great about sl half, it's yours!!'

Rachel you rock! You did this workout perfectly and should be incredibly proud of yourself. And all with a crappy feeling tummy. Way to go!!

Rachel, you are getting too fast for your own good!!! Keep it up. I still remember when you ran your first marathon as me. Seems like only yesterday. :)

Devine, nice - total body with the swim - did the swim help the recovery from the tempo workout?

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

One comment, your ability to handle tough days back to back has made good strides, keep it up.

From Smooth on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 13:24:18 from 174.27.212.157

WOW!!! VERY AWESOME tempo run!!! Super speedy miles! You are going to rock SLHalf for sure! :) :) :)

Take the vitamins at lunch...no more sour tummy!

Toby, I'd love some strawberry shortcake big girl panties :)

Andrea, thanks! that is a little intimidating in my mind, but I need to believe in the training and know that I can do it! I will, I will... Good luck to you on kickin' some trash on Sunday!!

Jake, Thanks for all your help. It has really helped - if nothing else my confidence! That uphill cool down was slow, but I didn't care - just wanted to mosey on home :)

Lily, I'm good at making up cuss-words. My husband still teases me about everything I said with my 2nd baby when the epidural didn't work :)

Carina, I could finally keep up with you on one of your recovery runs :) we'd better get some good runs in after you have your baby before you get too speedy again!

Rachelle, thanks! I tried to sit back and enjoy the pace and just let it sink into my legs.

Dale, isn't it crazy? I was just thinking about how I used to only be able to run a 10mm on the TM - otherwise I'd feel like I was going to die!

Brent, oh did it! I kept thinking about how wonderful the swim was and how much spin and swim help me recover SO much by giving me a good cardio push, but taking the pounding off my legs. I'm working my way up :) thanks for all your continued support!
