Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Now, I know this wasn't the plan, but...well, things happen :)

I'll give you the breakdown - then the story. You know there is always a story with all my entries!

AP: 9:12 splits: 9:26, 9:04, 8:59, 9:09, 9:29, 9:20, 9:05, 8:50, 9:14, 9:18

Spin class - it was a good one! She had us do a basic endurance run. 70-80% effort with your butt in the seat 90% of the time and very little variance on the resistance, but enough to do a few small hills. I loved it! Sweaty mess :)

So...this 10 miler, earlier in the week a guy on our Tri team at the rec center asked me if I wanted to run with him. I told him if he could find someone to run with us (I don't like doing just 1 on 1 with another guy) that I would be happy to join him. Well, he finally replied at 8PM last night and gave me his cell #. I gave him mine, but still wasn't sure if he'd found someone else to run with us. I tried texting and sending messages on fb all night, but by 11PM hadn't heard from him. I finally said if I didn't hear from him I was going to just sleep in and do my normal plan. I went to bed and set my clock for a sleep in morning.

5:07 the phone rings and he asks if I got his message....NO! He wanted to meet me 15 min away, so I told him I could be there in about 30 minutes, but that was the best I could do. He said they would wait for me - so up I got and rushed off. It was a BEAUTIFUL morning to be out and the miles went by quickly. George is a tri guy and just ran his first 13 miler Saturday. He is doing great on his training. Unfortunately, when we got back to my car he asked how long it took 1:32, just over 9's, nice pace. Then he turns to the other guy "didn't we do it in 1:27 last week?"

Well, if you know me I rarely set pace, I just follow whatever - especially in a new group. I didn't realize I was 'holding them back' or was I? Then I started reflecting on some other things he said and that he'd invited me to run with them on Tu and Th. So, I thought I was doing him a favor, but he must think he was doing me a favor. The only problem is, if I'm going to get up that early on Tu/Th I'll go to BBK's and challenge myself. I know that sounds stupid and maybe 'elitist' but, I'd rather go where there are good solid workouts and people to chase. I'm always the slowest runner there!

Anyway, now I'm just really confused. Was I doing him a favor or was he doing me a favor? I'm not sure I'll ever be able to figure it out. Oh well. I may join him in the future, but I guess if he wants a faster pace I'll take it up and show him a faster pace. HA! I don't know...it was all just weird.

Sounds like you have a new boyfriend.

I agree with Burt!

I personally think that since he is relatively new to the running thing, he really doesn't know what is going on much. FIVE minute difference! Really five minutes and he is making a bother about it.

Sounds like a strange situation. Stick to the running with the girls! :)

That is odd. I try to always be mindfull of those I am running with and do my homework before hand to anticipate what pace I may run.

Nice job Rachel! Thats a fantastic pace for an early morning run on short notice.

Devine Miss M - you are the queen, set the pace, let them chase you, sounds weird - runs should be fun or solid workouts - good luck at the 10K - if you feel like running turtle wall after race, give me a call, Sylvie is up for it, it is a tough little 4 miles run, you will love it.

STay Kool, kick some butt, be careful about strange runners.

Burt, naner naner!

Becca, I just didn't think I was the one holding back, I thought I was just running along with them a nice pace and no worries. If he wanted a specific time he should've told me - I'd give it to him! :) This is always a weird thing running with someone new. Yes, I think I will!

Chad, his first 13 miler was 2:05, so I knew his pace was a low 9. I actually told him if he came to Riverton I'd pace him to a 1:55 if he wanted. That was what opened the door to him asking me to run with him. I guess he wanted me to run him faster, but I didn't know that. Oh well. I was actually thinking that I should've invited you to come with us - then I'd know you'd keep the pace at an 8:30-8:50 and just take it along. You game? They meet out by Daybreak Lake.

Brent, I DO want to do Turtle wall. I kept meaning to send you a message! I think I'm going to just start going to the solid workouts :) I need some of them nearing Ogden anyway.

Sure, I would love to.

Either way you got a 10 mile run in. You are not the slowest even when I am not at the BBK's run.

From Rachelle on Thu, Mar 15, 2012 at 18:49:16 from 66.7.127.115

Great run Rachel!!

I would not worry about what he said at all. It sounds like he is new to running and still shooting to beat his time every single time. I hate awkwardness like that though.... Just shake it off because you are freaking awesome to run with!

From The Quiet Pirate on Fri, Mar 16, 2012 at 12:30:35 from 152.26.59.252

sounds like a mole-hill that you're over analyzing and making into a bit of a mountain.

You should run & have fun. Some days be the cat & some days be the RAT.

Mix it up with speed, company, and distance. Never a dull moment.
