Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Sixteen glorious, beautiful and fun filled miles!!! Toby was kind enough to drive to the end of the Earth for this run, and I hope it was worth it for her. I picked up Chad, then we met Toby and shuttled up to Highland HS to meet the speedies to do and out and back up Emigration Canyon. After 4 miles up I was having flashbacks to trying to run at a 6% incline on the TM, luckily before I'd go into convulsions I'd get a nice relief in the form of a roller and be able to push on!

Turned around at 8 miles up and Toby and I were definitely ready to head back down. Paul was in for a couple more and continued the uphill climb. We had a nice relaxing downhill 8 back to the car with just a couple stops for water/gu.

Simply a wonderful morning and although the sun never came out there was no wind and it wasn't freezing cold. I had a lot of anxiety about this run, but at the end I felt good and it gave me confidence that I can do this again - with a lot less anxiety about it. Those first few long runs back are always hard.

Hubby doesn't have Garmin installed on the computer yet (thank you Fartlek for frying the motherboard, another one of his destructive signature moves), so I don't know pace. I did glance before I turned it off at the end and I noticed we were sub 10's going up and around 9's coming down. So I think we were around a 9:30 AP. Not too shabby for that crazy climb! I'll take it.

I'll also take my foot feeling pretty decent. It feels better than after a 4 or 6 miler, so I'm not going to complain at all. I'm going to try and maintain around 40ish a week through March and ramp up the long runs in April before Ogden. I feel like recovering that base mileage and getting the foot back in order is more important than pulling high mile long runs right now. I'll definitely finish - maybe not in the time I'd like, but I'll do it. Blah. Another bunk marathon. I don't think I'll ever get that BQ - running life is just against me right now. I'll just keep running the same speed and expect to get there when I'm 50 :)

Thanks again Toby! I had an epic run this morning and I'm SO glad you were able to come along! I can't wait for warm weather and more long runs!

Nice meeting you guys today!

From Brent on Sat, Mar 03, 2012 at 15:51:06 from 66.7.127.67

Devine, you will get that BQ, no doubt, without Gwen, good work. Hang in, hang tough, dropping the 10bs is worth 10 minutes in the marathon, think of it that way, you will be motivated.

Stay Kool, b of BS Rools out

So glad you came up our neck of the woods for the run! I enjoyed running with you guys for a while...thought about waiting and seeing if you guys would want to go out for breakfast but it's hard to hang out and wait when it is freezing outside! Hopefully that'll be in store for summertime!!

THANK YOU for hanging with the slow poke! I SO need you to be my coach! I have no idea what I am doing! It WAS an epic run!

From Chad Robinson on Sat, Mar 03, 2012 at 19:37:39 from 208.110.158.227

Excellent job running today Rachel and thanks for the carpool. The wait was worth it even if I did get a little cold.

From Chad on Sat, Mar 03, 2012 at 21:28:00 from 71.199.13.143

Sounds great. I've never run up there, I need to one of these days and I know how you love hills.

Could hardly tell you had been off for a while you did such a good job running the canyon. Thanks for the company it was really nice meeting and chatting with you. No more t/m flashbacks for you its all road now :)

Great job Rachael. It sounds like you are back to long miles without a hitch.

From bye-wing on Sun, Mar 04, 2012 at 08:55:27 from 124.122.37.240

16 miles , with 8 going uphill is no easy task.

Don't be hard on yourself. Look at how far and fast you have come since getting your cast off

Just a few weeks ago. Keep up the good work.

From RAD on Sun, Mar 04, 2012 at 13:31:08 from 98.202.23.178

Smooth, I wouldn't quite say I was ready for Ogden. Those 16 miles were good today. Not sure another 10 would've been in a happy place! :) I can't wait to see you back out here, I really miss you!

Mark, it was great to meet you and Paige and run a few! I love meeting new running peeps. Makes me feel not quite so crazy :)

Brent, 10 minutes? yeah. THAT is motivation! I'm working on it - small and simple things, not an overhaul, just fine tuning. Takes a bit longer, but it will be healthier in the long run. Thanks for your endless support and coaching!

Kelli, a little pixie dust and it's like magic :) Thankful for modern medicine!

Carina, I just love being out and running! Fast, Slow, I don't care - I just love to be out on the road with good friends!!

Andrea, I've always wanted to run up there, but have been too chicken. I'm glad I overcame that fear and now I'll have to come up more often. No worries about breakfast, I think we all had obligations to get home to. It was SO great to run a few with you! I'm glad I made the trip.

Teena, a good run is always good news! I'm just glad the pain is coming into control. I may need some advice on taping though. It is the extensor ligaments/muscles on the top of the foot over the 3-4th metatarsal and up to the ankle. Any good links for taping with KT tape for a little extra support?

Toby, if I've been sucessful in any of my ventures I might take on being your coach, but I still feel like I don't really know anything and I can throw out suggestions, but I really don't know anything :) I'm not really a good running coach, I just play one on TV :)

Chad, I'm just grateful the school was open for you! Next time you'll remember to wait until its warm to carpool with the slow pokes :)

Paul, Oh and the road feels SO good! I'm grateful to not have to be on the TM, but some mornings it is nice to not bundle up 5 layers to get out too. It was great meeting and chatting with you as well, thanks for hanging with the sag wagon!

Nancy, the only hitch is the sore foot, but it isn't worse - so that is a good sign! I'm trying to be good.

bye-wing, I should keep that in mind. It just seems like forever since I could run with no pain. I can't wait! This course you can imagine running UP the Des News 10K course. Then you've got a good idea. Fun stuff! :)

From Bec on Sun, Mar 04, 2012 at 18:56:22 from 68.206.133.141

:( I am sooo sad. This was my old route that I used to run all the time!!! I wish we could have done when I lived there. Oh well, glad you liked it.

I am happy that you got a good run in and that you could finally really feel good. :) Keep it up. I hope your foot is feeling better.

From Jake K on Mon, Mar 05, 2012 at 12:04:41 from 155.100.226.54

Great run on Saturday - that is no easy run, heading up that canyon for 8 straight miles. Glad the body is holding up!
