Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I did it, yes, I did it! But, we must start at the beginning :)

Early spin class to get the cardio burn in. First morning in a LONG time my legs have felt tired. Oh, how I love it! Spin wasn't easy, Danielle is probably one of the toughest teachers at the gym - and I LOVE her classes!

Got kids off to school then went back with 2 little ones in the daycare. A tender mercy today: only TMs were open, no ellipticals. So, I decided to skip my normal warm-up there and just go for it on my hill climb (always a 6% grade!). Figured I could do 40 minutes total and get 30 min of running in (which is what I have to get to in order to start pulling down the incline). Yeah, okay this IS happening! So, I did. 7 min running (5 min @ 5.5 then 2 @ 6.0) with a 3 min walk break at 4.0mph. Repeated twice. Next two 10 min sets were: 5 min @ 5.5, 2 min @ 6.0 then 1 min @ 6.3. I was definitely ready for the 2 min break at the end of those ones!

Only a problem came with 3 min left in my last set of 8 min running, the day care called my name. Crap. Oh well, they will have to wait for 3 minutes. With 30 seconds left they called my name again, fine! I'm coming this time, just give me 30 seconds. So, I didn't do the last 2 min walk - grabbed the diapers then went down, except it wasn't a diaper change. Baby was getting tossed from the nursery for biting! Little stinker. He doesn't bite at home, because his siblings give him what he wants when he whines. This is going to take some work! Any suggestions on how to curb a 19 month olds biting issues would be greatly appreciated.

I'd planned on and was looking forward to masters swim, but now had an outlaw on my hands. Not even chuck-a-child would take him! So, I called a neighbor in desperation and she said she'd be happy to take the naughty child, and even his big brother for the hour while I swam. Ran (read: drove as fast as the law would allow) the kids practically home, went back to the rec center and changed and got in the water as fast as I could, but still missed the first half of class.

Even though I only got 35 minutes in, it was a GREAT class and I actually learned how to do breast stroke properly - it is deceptively HARD! I could barely get through the 75 doing it - the right way, not the way I'd done it all my life. My arms/shoulders/back and inner thighs will be sore tomorrow! Totally worth driving the kids to the neighbors and going back for.

So, I'm happy on 2 accounts - I did my 30 minutes on the TM at 6%! Granted, I think it needs to be consecutive, but I still did it! Also, if I would've gotten on an elliptical to warm-up I would've totally missed out on my running today, because of the outlaw. Thank you everyone at the gym for using the ellipticals this morning :)

I had a biter...a BAD biter. We used "biting juice" (aka hot sauce or vinegar) which eventually turned into bad word juice. Every time he would bite, he would get a teeny tiny drop and a time out. It was like Pavlov's dogs. Once he saw the bottle, he immediately stop going in for the bite.

Nice workout!

What a morning for you!!! Glad you got the cardio, the run and the master swim in!!!

Don't know what to do about a biter, poor thing just trying to defend himself. Toby gave good suggestion, although my youngest child LOVED hot sauce! Hehe! :)

Great workout. I had a few biters but they didn't bite very often and I think they only bit their siblings. At that age all you can do is let them know it didn't make you or the other person happy.

hee hee how's the "outlaw"? so glad you got in your workouts. Seriously I need a good swim but I hate water in my ears which tends to last a long time and those darn plugs don't stay in right. I need clay ones.

You are crazy, and that is where little Adam gets it! I am sorry he is causing trouble. He knows he can leave the gym if he bites...

AS for you, that is a great day of working out! 30 min. on the incline scares me off. I actually want to give your workout a go, it sounds rather intense.

How is the foot feeling? Is there pain at all when you are walking at the incline? Just wondering how it's all working.

Did you sign up for Antelope Island 25K? Jim expects it to fill up soon!

My biter didn't stop until she got bit.

That bites!

You will need to teach me corect breastroke. I'm still being told I am doing something wrong - even this week. It is my favorite, but apparently I am still not getting it right :( Don't you just hate that!

Bite ME!!

I'm so glad you're back on the TM- and wondering if you are having any pains at all.

From RAD on Fri, Feb 03, 2012 at 14:44:46 from 98.202.23.178

Toby, thanks for the suggestion! I like it - a lot. I just wonder if he is now developing a taste for vingear? :)

Smooth, no surprise YOUR child likes hot sauce :) thanks for the support, hanging in there.

Nancy, yeah, it is hard to get through to them at this age! I think that is the hardest part.

Julie, you should try silicone ones - you form them to your ear and you can get them at the grocery store super cheap.

Becca, honestly? yeah, there is still some tenderness and soreness when I walk, but it really does feel better running! everyday gets better though and that is all I can really ask for. Oh, and if you'd like to try the workout - go for it! It would be nice to have someone appreciate the crud I have to 'run' through! :)

Smooth, crap - I'll get on it!

Terri, if this goes on much longer I might start letting my kids bite him back!

Allie, were you a closet biter? when no one was looking? I think you just might be... :)

bye-wing, I really enjoy my master swim classes, I learn a lot. I'm not sure my breast stroke is really all that good, it just isn't horrible like it used to be :) The biggest thing she told me is that you don't want to fully extend your arms - you lose your power. Also, when you bring your arms in you want to push UP, like you are pushing water into your face (or giving your chest a little lift - think BREAST stroke :) ). I'm sure the pull, kick, glide rhythm you have down just fine.

Maynard, thanks

Rachelle, I sometimes wonder if I'll ever be able to keep up with you! I was close once...just once.

QP, I'm sure I did bite you - more than once! minor aches and pains, but nothing significant. Always better than the day before.
