Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Today I did the body building class at the gym and then rode the upright bike for 30 min (6 miles). Got a lot of errands to run today, but I'm ready for my long run tomorrow - I think I'll hit 20.

I have a request. I'm leaving for a cruise next Friday evening for 2 weeks. I don't know how to 'train' while I'm on vacation. I just can't run long distances on the TM, they do have a running track that is 5 laps/mile so its not too small, but I still don't think I could do 15-20 on a track. I'm nervous about loosing my training for these 2 weeks. Does anyone have suggestions about what to do while I'm gone? Or somewhere I can get a training plan? I think I'm making too big of a deal out of it, but with Ogden being just over 2 months away I don't want to have to start nearly over again in training...help, please!

If you want to maintain what you have started, you need to suck it up and just hit the track on the ship or the TM (the sacrifice will be worth it). Also and most importantly, enjoy the vacation!

Do I still need to keep the long runs long...or can I split them up (I can stomach splitting them on the TM) and have them be as effective?

Rachel,

No worries, you won't loose any fitness. I wouldn't worry about long runs. With your 20 miler tomorrow, you can safely scale your long run down to 13 for the next two weeks. I'd keep the speed work or tempo runs on the TM. Are there any "land" time? I know people who do runs when the ship docks at major ports. It is actually fun to run the streets and cities, just be sure to have a running buddy or at least let your company know where you're running and how long you'll be gone. The R & R will do you wonder and when you come back you'll be ready to ramp up your training. Relax and enjoy.

Rachel, I have the perfect solution to your problem, let me go for you! I agree with Smooth. If you are pulling 20 tomorrow, you can take your long runs down to about 13 miles or so. Looks like you will have about 50 miles this week, that is a ton. Try to hold your miles at about 35-40 during the next two weeks. Don't stress, relax and enjoy the vacation.

Thanks girls! I'll try to keep the miles up, maybe just split them up. They have 'fitness' classes on the boat as well that I might try to use as x-training. I do have 'land time' but we have tours scheduled during all of them. Anybody have a good tempo/hill workout I can do on the TM? I always just go to BBK's and try to keep up with them! I'm not good at trying to plan stuff like that for myself, because I'll always make it too easy. Oh, and Bec thanks for the solution...but I think I'll decline :)
