Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

It's Stake 5K time again! So, for this morning's workout I decided to see how my legs would do at the race in a couple weeks - and get used to the course the 'normal' uphill way and not the way I like to run it from my house. Did one warm-up mile to the church (8:31), then stretched then started out. The first 2 miles are the worst of the uphill, but kept the splits descent (7:57, 8:19) then the third mile is mostly down (7:35) with my .08 run to the finish -it's just a little short- I finished in just over 24 minutes. Not too bad for the uphills you have to kick through.

Then I took a nice leisurely jog home...I was tired! (9:32) That killed my AP for the run and I finished with an 8:24 for the five miles. This was a fun 'tempo' run, and it's fun to have a close course to gauge speed on over time. I'd like to hit 23 minutes on race day...we'll see what my legs have to offer then.

Now I'm off to the gym to do step class and ab's class...I was thinking I'd run another 5K on Milley, but I may just do the ab's class instead. Still undecided, I'll update later.

*Went to do ab's, I didn't get a chance to eat much before step so I was a little light headed. Decided it would be better to do ab's than kill myself for another 3 when I have a full day with kids and volleyball tonight!*

were you by chance wearing yellow today?

i saw someone really speeding along this morning...

From RAD on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 10:18:30 from 76.27.12.70

yes I was! Were you in black and going down Tracy Loop road? I also thought I spied another speedster this morning! :)

From Cal on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 10:21:28 from 66.133.117.3

(no i was actually driving to work...)

but you really were cruising along. good job! When is your race?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 10:38:32 from 24.8.167.243

Your stake has a 5K? That's really cool. And you'll really blow away the field if you practice the course a lot.

I wish my stake did something like that. We've tried to get a ward running group going, but it's gotten down to just 3 people who come consistently.

So what does RAD stand for?

From RAD on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 14:40:02 from 76.27.12.70

Carolyn, they do it as a stake activity twice a year - it's fun and the field is sparse, so I always take first :) Gotta defend that title! Even if it was with a 28 min 5K last year when I ran.

Ashbaker - RAD is my maiden name initials. In HS lots of friends called me that, so when Rachel was taken on the blog I naturally switched to RAD :)

Cal, Now I wonder who that speedy guy I saw was....

The race is 10/24 at 9AM, you should come!

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 15:23:12 from 24.199.205.252

little RAD-

That's my new name for you....it seems fitting on different levels.

Your hill paces are great. You'll meet your goal for the race w/o any problems.

You do so much cross training every day that your easy days make me tired.

How was the weather for your run this morning?

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 15:26:53 from 24.199.205.252

We don't have a stake 5K or anything great like that, but we have a lot of runners in our ward, and at a local 10K/5K/1 mile, we all got matching shirts that had the scripture about Walk and not be weary, Run and not be faint (then it had the D&C reference for it listed). I missed that scripture mastery day in seminary :-)

It was fun to see each other out on the course.

From Nancy on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 17:49:15 from 76.27.69.172

Your stake 5K sounds fun and hard. Great job as usual.

From RAD on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 17:55:38 from 76.27.12.70

QP- 'little' RAD? not what most people would call me, but for you I'll make an exception :) Weather this morning was okay...little chilly, but not as bad as Saturday. I think next 5/10K you should wear your Burmese shirt and give them all something to talk about :) I'm sure you could find a scripture reference to loosely relate - hehehe

Nancy- it is fun, but it always cracks me up that they have doughnuts afterward. A 5K barely burns ONE doughnut!! They are doing a 10K bike race for 18+ this year, so the running field will be even more sparse this year.

You need to eat breakfast, little RAD.

From Bec on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 23:58:44 from 67.177.35.60

Nice workout(s) today. My run was AAAA laggin' big time as I tried to push speed. Maybe it was Saturday's run? I hope to see you again, maybe this Saturday?

From RAD on Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 00:21:27 from 76.27.12.70

Carolyn...I know, I know...and you know almost as well as I do! :)

Bec, I'm sure you're lagging was a 6:30mm pace! No worries, tomorrow you'll be back at your speediness. Not sure about Saturday's 10K - I need more miles and I have race day the next Sat...tell me more details.

From MrsFIT on Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 12:37:42 from 205.127.241.18

A stake 5k?? Hmmmmm, that's a great idea!

From Nan Kennard on Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 15:18:32 from 174.51.250.151

I have a good childhood friend who often went by RAD too. Her name is Rachelle Anne Dixon. And she is definitely rad. She and I started running track together way back in 8th grade. In High School I started running distance and she kept with the sprints and did soccer in the fall. She went on to play soccer for BYU while I ran CC and Track.

Nice run today and have fun showing off your skills to the whole Stake!
