I ran with Wayne and Bracken. The plan was to run from Trefoil at the top of South Fork canyon down to Fort Utah in Provo. (We thought it was 18 miles but it's 17 miles.)

I more or less kept up for the first 10 miles. It was a little faster than I should have been running, but I felt okay and I didn't want to hold Wayne and Bracken back more than I already was. By the time we were approaching the mouth of the canyon my legs were beginning to feel like lead. I had taken the day off work the day before and worked all day on repairing the roof on our camping trailer. I went up and down the ladder many times and I think it took it's toll on my legs.

I knew if I finished the full distance I would be slowing to a crawl. Bracken had a vehicle parked at the mouth of the canyon in case his foot acted up, but he felt fine so I drove it down to Fort Utah and ran back up to meet them. I made it a little over 2 miles before I met them. I was running over 10 minute pace on the gradual uphill, but managed some sub-9:00 again after I met them and turned back away from the mountains and toward the lake again.
