Today was a Tempo Day on my new Run Less Run Faster program. Since I'm on the cruise I have to do all of my running on the treadmill. I'm still trying to figure out where I should be in regards to training in the program. I didn't want to start at the beginning since I have been running for a while and I didn't feel just pluggTing in my PR's to find equilivant paces doesn't seem to make sense to me either. By doing that I believe some of the pace are too slow for me. Today I picked a 6:15 pace (which is a what you would run if you were a 17.45 - 5K runner, I'm not nearly a 17.45 - 5K runners but I knew I could do the workout as described). So here's the workout:

Treadmill set @ 1% Incline

Stretch

1 Mile easy - 9 to 10 min pace

2 miles @ 6:15 - 159 HR

1 mile easy - 10 min pace

2 miles @ 6:15 - 165 HR

1 mile easy - 10 min pace cool-down

Stretch

Tomorrow I signed up for a Spin Class...That will be interesting since I've never done that.

That is a fast, fast workout...nice going.

That,s smokin fast! You need to get out and run a 5k and get that PR where it should be.

From I Just Run on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 13:20:40 from 166.137.138.67

You know...I'm wondering what I could have done on a workout like this a year ago? It was definitely hard but I wasn't about to die at the end :-) hope this program works, I jumped in at the 14 week of the 18 week half marathon plan.

From JG on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 14:19:27 from 71.59.27.33

Great workout ... can I assume there were no hip issues since there was no mention of any? I will have to find my book & refresh my memory, I went straight to the chapter on running a 3:20 marathon for the training plan, and used those as my benchmark paces. At the time, they were a stretch for me ... I am curious how they would feel now.

Have fun at the Spin class, my gyum has instructors that rock the class ... but on a cruise ship, you might have one that is not such a drill seargent. They are fun though.

Oh, and I agree with Dave ... look for a 5k where you can post a sub 20 ... that would be a great pace test for you.

From I Just Run on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 14:46:01 from 166.137.138.67

I think I'm ready for a 5k...no Hoo problems so far:-)

JG, I wish you would look at your book and give me some advice. The two runs so far haven't been at the suggested for my PR's (faster) but what I felt like I could do. Friday will be 10 @ 7:30...that's a little slower on the scale than these burst two runs.

From TexasLindsey on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 14:51:32 from 70.253.132.214

That's FAST! Good job!

From JG on Tue, Oct 11, 2011 at 14:55:56 from 71.59.27.33

I will have to find it, but I will take a look. I did not pick the plan based on my p.r.'s though, I went straight to my goal time, and the recommended paces were definitely a stretch, but come race day I got my goal.

If you can run 2 miles at 6:15, twice, you are in for some big PRs soon, at every distance. Good job.

Excellent speed! You have jumped right into some great speed work! Have a great trip.

I found spin class to be alot more challenging than I expected. At the time I tried it, I was running like 16 mile long runs. I found that I wasn't "tired" in spin class and gasping for air as much as my muscles were killing me! So probably a great thing for cross training. Although, you've been doing the bike already... I'll be interested to hear what you think about it.

Great workout, by the way! I might try that sometime, but I'll have to do it with 6:45 as the fast miles.

From Steam8 on Fri, Oct 14, 2011 at 15:58:31 from 174.253.164.224

I'm interested to see how you like the spin class! I thought of you as I got on my bike this morning.... I'm so hoping it will keep me in almost as good of shape as you we in when you could start running again!

Hey Steam

I haven't entered all my workouts yet but the soon classes went well. I would sat it would get very boaring if I were doing it by myself ( much not boaring than even the TM). With the instruction and the music and people to talk to it was actually fun. By the end there was a lake of sweat around my bike. No one else had any sweat on the ground. I think I was cranking the effort up much higher than everyone else.
