Well, I hope today is a real step in the right direction. I went to the gym and ran 8 miles. I went ahead and charted it today since I consider it a sucessful run. My knee was sore most of the day yesterday but got better in the evening when I got out of the office and was able to really move around on it. Last night I was debating (myself) on what I should do today. Even when I went to be I was considering just skipping today. When I woke up this morining and tested my knee it felt pretty good so I decided to go ahead and try it. Today was different than all the other days in the fact that at the end of the run my knee felt better. Before I could not say that because, at best, it felt the same at the end of any run. Today I go to the doctor who is going to look at the x-rays and say there's nothing torn or any major damage. I'm going to ask for a cartisone shot and she's going to say no (or she doesn't want to do it). I've got to decide how hard I push her to do it and if I'm going to try and run OKC. I did notice that even though the run today didn't seem too hard my heart rate is quite a bit higher than previous runs of this type. I'm sure that's because I've lost conditioning. Oh well...I'll see how it goes later today (what the doctor says and how my knee feels). BTW...If you read this you probably wonder why I put all the goofy thoughs into the Blog. I really just want to document what I'm thinking for future reference. I know later I'll go back and read this and say to myself..."what in the world was I thinking, that was gooffy".
NEW ENTRY.....
And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever.
I went to the doctor this afternoon after a week delay. The doctor got sick and had to reschedule my appointment. I had x-rays done last week so the doctor looked at them and gave the prognosis. I had a bone spur on my knee cap which had broken off and was causing the pain. Apparently it was floating around in there causing the problem. She said this type thing usually takes about 6 weeks to heal but she assumed I was at the end of the healing process based on my description of the pain and what was going on. She said the bone spur would eventually dissolve and that I could go ahead and run as much as I wanted to. She suggested taking 4 Aleve before running and if the pain didn't bother me too much Just Run... She said all of the damage that was going to be done was done and it would only heal from here.
So....When I got home I took 4 Aleve, dressed for running and went out and ran 7.5 miles...Ha....! Below are the results. It was 88 degrees, 25 mile per hour winds and sunny. Typically it would be a miserable day for running but GREAT today for me! I'm not sure about where I am on conditioning, the results don't look too bad except my heart rate was way up there and at about 6 miles my legs got reallyyyyyy heavy and tired. The good news is the pain/discomfort did not get any worse over the course of the run.
