It seems like Monday is the day for the gym. I can't seem to get there any other days. Today was a pace day so I went to the good old hot gym (no AC when I got there, it was 80 degrees outside and I'm sure the same inside the gym...but with no breeze). Ran 1/2 mile warm-up and then maxed the machine at a blistering 7:30 pace (oh...did I tell you - that's the top speed the treadmills are set to). It's interesting to look at my heart rate and how it goes up so evenly after the first mile 145,147,149,151... exactly 2 BPM each mile. This is the actual readings. I would think, and was hoping, it would level out at some point and I could maintain a constant HR. I'm thinking this is telling me that my long distance marathon pace cannot be 7:30 but something slower where my HR levels off at a certain speed.

Proverbs 31: 9b-31
The Wife of Noble Character

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
6 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate

That is interesting how it goes up evenly like that. I'm sure at a nice cool 50 degrees it would level out for awhile.

Yeah, I was tempted to just keep running until I couldn't run any more and see what it did :-)

Great job after 16 yesterday! TM are great for tempo runs, I may have to do one later today! Thank God the AC works at my gym ... sometimes you just have to tell them they need to turn it up a few notches! No mention of knee ... that is awesome!

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 11:07:28 from 67.79.11.242

Since I'm not actually a member of the gym (I pay $2 a day as a visitor fee) and I only go about once a week, I don't think they really care if I'm hot or the treadmill runs too slow...I get no respect!

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 11:14:11 from 67.79.11.242

Oh JG...The knee is still sore, I'm just tired of mentioning it!

From JG on Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 11:19:08 from 98.66.250.214

$2 daily fee?! That is great, wish my gym offered that! I was going 5 times a week & doing lots of Spin, but the last couple months where I have been increasing my mileage, I have barely gon at all! Like once in the last month, which equates to a $28 visit!! Guess that is good reason to go today to do a tempo run on TM!

Yeah a $2 day pass is not bad- I need that for the ice storms in winter. Nice running today- I think the HR can have different factors there, so keep checking.

Ha ha....JG, Thanks for the youtube video. I was just imagining myself right there with that pack of guys running! I started looking at the logistics of going (air fare, hotel, etc.) and figured I'd have to use frequent flyer miles because the $$ are very high. I haven't figured it all out yet but I'm looking. I think I will have to fly into SLC and drive a couple of hours. I'll keep you posted!

Dan,

Yeah the price is right and they do have new treadmills. I've just got to pick my workouts so when I go in I'm only running easy runs or slow tempo runs and quit complaining about the machines not going fast enough.
