First...I didn't do any good at the roping. I actually only entered one event, where I usually enter in three catagories, so my odds were a little lower this time. I couldn't stay for the second day of competition because we have some big event stuff at church that I had to attend (priorities!!! :-).

Todays run was just to see how my hip strain was feeling after two days of rest. I started out really slow. I really didn't hurt when I started but got worse as I ran. At mile 3-4 I told myself that everything was off (races, training, etc.) but I had to get home so I kept running. By mile 6 I started to feel better and by mile 7 I decided to go ahead with my initial plan and run two loops. After 10 mile the hip strain was nothing more than an irritation and I finally felt like I could stretch out and run a little (normal). Mile 14 is a lot of uphill and mile 15 I decided to kick out a little so my HR rose on these two miles a little more. Now, 2 hours after the run, my hip strain is a little sore but not enough to make me limp....I am hopeful again!

Bummer about the roping event, but good news about running. I've had a few aches and pains that got me worried early in a long run, usually they just pass and I forget all about them after a few miles. Keep up the crosstraining and hit the road once in a while to assess the progress. Those meatheads at the gym probably miss you by now...

Good to hear it IJR. You're moving in the right direction!

Good news about the injury.

Nice run, no limp sounds good.

Too bad about the competition, but it sounds like you have bigger events to tackle with your roping anyway!

From I Just Run on Wed, Apr 04, 2012 at 10:22:26 from 67.79.11.242

Oh well on the roping... I've got several more coming up in the near future.

My hip is getting better!

I checked out a new gym today but decided it was not an option: $ 10.00 for a day pass verses $ 2.00 for my current gym. I think I can put up with the meatheads :-)

Why aren't you running Boston this year?

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 05, 2012 at 07:54:39 from 67.79.11.242

I haven't qualified for Boston yet. Since I am 51 the qualifying time is 1:30:00. Last year I only ran one marathon (OKC) and I had a bone spur that kept me from training for a month before the race. I ran Ft Worth marathon a few weeks ago (trying to qualify for next year) but blew up after 20 miles due to terrible race pacing/management. I may run OKC again in about four weeks if my body parts start cooperating.

Tom,

Sorry for the long answer...I should have just said "I'm not fast enough".

From rAtTLeTrAp on Thu, Apr 05, 2012 at 08:51:57 from 174.253.221.132

You are fast enough. You just haven't had the right opportunity to prove it yet.
