24 running miles this week and everything's good. Two days of 7 miles on the road and two days on the treadmill at 5 miles. Next week I'm thinking about just adding one more day at 2 miles and biking about 100 miles. I think it's time to start planning for some races :-)

Today's run was the same as several before (gym treadmill @ max speed). My HR was not as low but I think my legs were just a little tight.

The Message (MSG)

28-30"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

I agree, a little 5k or 10k would give you a good starting point for your comeback, although with all the biking it looks like you haven't lost much. Nice run.

Nice job being patient & smart with your weekly buildup. I agree with Joe, try to find an October 5 or 10k, and do a little speedwork to prep yourself ... you may be surprised by your speed on race day. Maybe a February marathon would be best, time to build your mileage up, but before it gets too hot!

Planning for a race is a great way to jumpstart your motivation!

So you were in Fort Worth the other day? Just a day trip?

Yes, I was at the Zoo for a couple hour meeting. Left San Marcos at 4:30 am, it was a long day.

I'm thinking about signing up for a Half Marathon in Gruene, Tx (down here very near San Marcos). It was a big race last year, both Full and Half. I'm not sure if I'm ready for a Half but I'm thinking more of an assesment run than a PR effort. I looked at the time and I could have won my age group last year though. It's on October 29th.

IJR, you know your body best, but I would be hesitant to ramp up to a haif marathon at race effort in 30 days after coming off an injury. Personally, I think racing a 10k would give you a much more accurate assessment. Your endurance will come back quickly as you ramp up the mileage, but I would not push the envelope that quickly. Focus on speedwork and form the next 30 days! ... and cycling! :)

I'm so glad all is feeling well! I am trying to find the rattlesnake entry.

Hey JG,

I know what you're saying but this race is only about 10 mile from my house (one of the few close ones). I'm thinking, if I run it, to just treat it as a training run and not really go for a PR. This may be hard to do but I really want to participate at this one. There were a lot of runners last year and it's for a really good cause. I'll probably just go ahead and pay the $ 75 entry fee but just drop out if I don't feel perfect at the time.
