I ran these five miles at 8:57/mile in 44:50.  Pretty decent pace I think given the elevation and I was going for Easy but may have pushed a littler harder than easy.  At any rate, the pace is within low end of Easy pace range (a harder Easy).

AND: NO MUSIC.  I tried music yesterday and it simply was not working for me.  To me, the music takes so much away from the run – so out of tune with the run and what is going on with my pace and breathing with the music.  I have no idea if this is normal – so many other people seem to want the music during their runs and races.

Staying on track with the running!  Have a scheduled run tomorrow with a workmate.  So there high likelihood that run will get done!  And then Saturday sees another scheduled run with a friend.  I am thinking I will have another solid week of runs and miles.

I told you not to listen to Celtic Woman.

Just found your blog. Man, you run a lot of races! Keep up the good work!

I've never tried running with music. I'm always amazed at what songs just pop into my head while I'm out there. Some of the songs are quite embarrassing!

great job, PRE. keep it up.

about the music -- i go through phases, but more often than not i don't listen to anything. i usually only use my ipod in the winter when i'm plodding along in the cold. the ear buds only stay in my ears if i have a hat or a hoodie -- and listening to les miserables or requiem for a dream is pretty awesome in a snowstorm.

burt is going to give me so much flying hippopotamus dung for this comment.

Hey Pre,

I like the way you document all your runs. I typically do the same. Looks like you're getting in some good milage too. I usually take music with me but don't listen to it much. I do like the ear buds in my ears to keep the wind out.

I notice one of your short term goals is FIRST marathon training program. I've been using it for about a year now. I had great results in my half marathon last year but kinda flubbed up my marathon by bad pacing. I'm training for Ft Worth Cowtown Marathon right now and using FIRST program although I've had a little set back because of a knee problem. I hope to be back on track in a couple of weeks. Keep up the good work!

Allie,

Hi. I will keep that in mind. I pretty much made the decision to not go with the music...but - what you say regarding matching up particular works with weather...now that is something to think about.

Burt,

I am going to have to check your site out...are you back to running more regularly now? I know ... I could just go there ...I will. Hope you are well physically (Not sure if you were kidding about the 68 pound weight gain). Hope you and your family are doing well...I really only know Emily (hope I got her name correctly).

I Just Run,

Hi. Thank you. Regarding "Short Term Goals" section of this blog: I use that for links. I entertained the FIRST training program for a while...and I do think it would be good...but I am not sure and was a little concerned with investing an entire 16 weeks to test the program out. At any rate, I am now doing a 50 mile race in April...I for sure cannot go with the FIRST training program for that race distance. AND sorry to hear about the knee problem. Hope it heals quickly.
