| | We ran 6 miles today then some striders. It was nice to have a break, and now it's nice to get back into the swing of things. Hoping for a good season!
|
| | Fun run on the trails today. Apparently now we have to run faster than 10 minute miles, oh well. Lovin' life, morale is high
|
| | I actually went snowshoeing today at Brian Head. I have no idea how far we actually went, but we hiked for 3 hours at high altitude, so I figured it's gotta be worth at least 5.
|
| | I couldn't make it to practice today because I had to get some plates removed from my jaw. Yup, real fun. I got done and played mom driving my sisters around all over town. By the time I got done, the numbing medicine had worn off, and my jaw told me not to run. But I just thought of some Crispy Creme lyrics, "I'm tough as nails, you're slower than a snail," and with that in mind I buckled down. And guess what, once my face got numb from the cold air, I was fine! Whoot whoot! It's the grind.
| |
| | We did a fun run off of Navajo Drive. Coach gave me a new nickname of "Alvin" because I was swollen in the jaw area. Also, Dallin was his usual chirpy/annoying self and threw rocks the whole time. I love my team, really!
|
| | What a run! We went a faster pace than we usually do on our "easy runs", but it was still a blast. I'll get used to the new pace soon, so no big deal. My biggest problem was I was hungry, but I guess that's nothing new, I'll pack more snacks or something, like another can of beans (shoutout to Joseph Buenning). In other news, me and Coach had a nice talk about how good the fish from Costco is, and coincidentaly, we had talapia from Costco for dinner! It ruled!
| |
| | Good run today out to "witch mountain." Coach wasn't with us, and Josh Mcphie put Rex in charge of the run, so it was pretty adventurous. I don't know if all the boys loved it, but I did! I think it's good to mix it up and go on these crazy runs, keep it loose, ya know? Also, Coach wants us to remember the 5-to-one rule. I means five positive thoughts to every negative one. I think this could really push me to the next level. All in all, a pretty dang good day!
|
| | Just a fun run with the team. I honestly love running with the guys so much, it's so fun, and they're some of the best friends I've ever had. The only problem I have is deciding who to talk to! Haha. Well, the only thing that didn't go very well was I had to miss tabatta to go move some speakers and equipment for the "Roc Dox." I took forever! I ended up getting home at 1 that night, but at least I got paid!
|
| | What a busy day! I went to orchestra rehersal all morning, and then I went to sing at a funeral at two, which was actually a very touching experience. I then went on a nice loop that ended up being a little long, but that's ok. My legs felt a little flat, but that's the good thing about running, once you get in a rhythmn, it's easy to keep going! Another good day, hopefully my concert goes well tonight!
|
| | Today we did the Vo2 max test. I wasn't really looking forward to it (then again, who was?) but it went really good!! I ended up going about 4 inches over 11 laps, which is a personal best for me I believe. I thought that last time I did 11 and 3/4 laps, so I went into this thinking that 11 would just be expected for the beginning of the season, but it turns out I was around 10 and 3/4 for cross, so I'm hoping for big things this track season! I also got some new shoes, including some Altra Lone Peaks, so I'm excited to try those out tomorrow!
|
| | We did a nice dirt road run out in the werner valley area near little black mountain. I was pretty fun, but the funniest part was while we were 4 miles out, a truck tried to avoid us by going into the deepest sand ever. Needless to say, it got stuck. We pushed it out most of the way, but then the driver reved the engine to much and dug a hole in the sand. It tooks us a little bit to gather some sticks and what-not, but we got it out, even though some pessimistic dirt biker lady told us it was impossible. Huh! Little did she know we were state champions! It was really funny though because as soon as the truck got stuck we were all just joking about surving out in the wild & building shelters and stuff. Way fun! I also had a really interesting conversation with John, Josh, Dallin & Micah about work. Pretty much the consensus was that we weren't going to be lazy like the rest of America, and I think our choice of sport reflects that... haha, life's good!

| | Nice Tempo run today. Ran for 15 minutes at a solid 5:45 pace. Felt pretty good, and the team held together very well. I was impressed with how well a lot of the sophomores did, they're going to rock the running world when they're seniors! In other news, Josh Mcphie had to borrow my short shorts when I was done, so that was new.

| | We did a nice ridge run today. I love that run, even though some kids think it's "hard." What? It's great! I just love that run because it provides a good overlook, and you feel like you're on top of the city! It also has a really fun downhill section. We also did some striders today, and after that we did "plybatta" good stuff.
|
Altra Lone Peak Miles: 6.00 |
|
| | We did a really nice tabatta style workout on the track. It was nice because it was at your own intensity, so you get out of it what you put into it. Our team is shaping up to be really good, we have a lot of really hard workers, especially our sophomore class. I also enjoyed the basketball game tonight even though we got creamed, but I saw By-run and Abel there, so that was fun! Good long run coming up tomorrow!

| | What a great run! I met up with the Thatchers, Kale, Dallin, Chloe, Rachel and Brianna and we went out and ran the Zen Trail. It's only a 6 mile loop, but us guys extended so we got 10. I forgot that when you run with the Thatchers you need to book your entire day, because we took every side route and climbed every boulder. Haha, I actually love that it makes the runs so much more enjoyable, so much longer too... Well, anyway, just another beautiful day in Paradise! Stay dry.

| | Wow! What a crazy workout! Coach had us run the cosmond workout, and it rocked my world. The last two 60 second repeats I felt good for the first 50 or so meters, then it felt like a cowboy lassoed me & then let me drag him around the track. Suffice to say, I was tired. Then coach started talking to us and mentioned that we weren't done yet, and I almost cried. We did some 300 meter progresions with pushups in between, and they weren't to bad. All in all, it was a great workout, cudos to coach for continuing to find good ways to push us, and I'm looking forward to a fun season! Our team is going to lay the hammer down on some people! Such a resiliant group of young runners, they keep me going!

| | AM- First morning practice. Nice and easy and very enjoyable. Courtney took off like a bullet out of a gun, like usual. I quadruple layered, and it was to much. Next time I'll just triple layer.
PM- Ran out at Church Rocks for the first time. I didn't even know it was out there, and it was awesome. Apparantly Pine View knows about it, because they were out there also. In other news, I got into Josh's group for Junior Prom, so now I need to make some swords for larping!! It's going to be a blast!

| | Four mile repeats today! I felt great on this workout. Me & Rex found the pace, and just crusied to victory. The last mile was the best, we went out at the same pace, and we stayed way relaxed, didn't even push it at all, and we came in way under our time, just over 5. It was beautiful. I love running, it just brings me so much joy!

Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 9.00 |
|
| | AM- Nice easy run to the Spectrum and back. Josh and John weren't there, which means they probably didn't get to bed before 10. Haha
PM- We did a fun loop around the "ridge." We kept it pretty flat. We also found some chain/bead necklaces in an abandoned couch out in the desert, so not a bad day!

| | Did a way fun trail run out at Church Rocks with Courtney and Jake. We also ran into some of the other girls and Scott, Joe and Model-T, so I think this is now one of the teams favorite trail spots! There's something about 10 mile trail runs that is just fun. I loved it. Maybe I'm crazy. Also, a bunch of my friends think that when I'm older I'm going to have a pot belly, well I decided my new long term goal is to prove them all wrong! haha!

Altra Lone Peak Miles: 10.00 |
| |
| | Nice 20 minute tempo run today. We went out at 5:40, then 5:40 again, and then hit a 5:44, and then finished with 3.5 miles total. I felt like it was a pretty good workout, I started fading at the end a little, but I was able to stay positive and finish, so yipee!
|
Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 8.00 |

| | AM-Nice run out to the bridge and back. Talked a lot about larping
PM-We ran the Zen trail! I love this trail, it's so great! Also, Scott did not stay very dry today, it was like a monsoon!!

| | AM- Just a the lone faithfuls this morning, not to many people made it to practice, oh well!
PM-Two mile warm up, and then we rocked out some mile repeats. I hit all of my times pretty methodically, it felt great. I went a bit faster the last one at 5:08, and that didn't feel bad at all. Rex hit his at like 4:54, and as we were running around the track I just looked at him and smiled, he's going to be such a good runner. The other sophomores did awesome also, they're going to be a ferocious group of runners! Also, Kale did the Cosby (Kosmin) test, and he almost got 1600 meters!!! Fortunatly for me he didn't, because then I would have owed him 20 bones (dollars)

| | AM- 3 mile run to Hidden Valley and back. It was pretty good. Nothing out of the ordinary
PM- We did a 4 mile Kenyan run (we all ran in a single file line) and cleared our inner chi. And can you believe it? We were even quiet for a whole 5 minutes!!! WHOA
|
Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 7.50 |
|
| | Did some fun hill repeats out in Little Valley, it was the first time we have ever ran on that hill, and I liked it! I'm pretty sure all the neighbors and people driving were wondering what in the world we were doing... haha
|
Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 6.00 |
|
| | Met up with the Thatchers and Jake Buenning to do an out and back run on poleline road. It was probably the least adventurous run I've done with them. That was ok though because we needed to get back to help Coach's dad move stuff to his new house. After that we went larping!!! So much fun! It looks like some nerd game, but it is amazing!
|
Altra Lone Peak Miles: 9.00 |
|
| | We did a pretty fast track workout today. We kept it real and ran 5x1000 meter repeats, along with 5x200 meter repeats. My legs definately felt it, but it's good for me. My bowels were giving me some trouble though, so I got some extra core in, if you know what I mean. Plybotta after practice as well

| | AM-First morning run of the week. Not bad, we were all a little sore from yesterday's workout, but it's still fun to get the run int
PM-Trail run out at the Arizona strip. We went 7 miles and had a great time. I just like running, especially on trails. The only unfortunate thing is that Scott did not stay very dry, for the 2nd time!! It appeared as if he got hit with a flash flood!

| | AM-Spectrum Wednesday. Just another run, mane.
PM-Another tempo run out at the Dixie Center. I felt way way better this time and I averaged 5:35 pace for 20 minutes, and got further than last time. Also encouraging, all of my mile splits were negative, so I just kept getting faster. Haha, man, I love running, so fun!
|
Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 3.00 |
|
| | AM-Ran out to the bridge. I forgot my beenie, but I still survived
PM-Another nice Kenyan run, and we stayed quiet, mostly, for a long time! It was unbelievable!! Overall, just a weird day, don't know why, but I got a churchball game tonight, so yipeekyea!

| | We did a pretty fun track workout today. After a two mile warm up we did a 4 set workout. Each set had 2x200s and and 800. The first set we were a little slow on the 800, and it was way hard, and we were freaking out. The wierd thing was, the next ones only got easier. That's why I like being a distance athlete.
|
Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 9.00 |
|
| | I went on a fun desert run out in the Little Valley area. I didn't really stay on a trail or anything, but it was just fun! I found a really steep hill that was fun to run down, so that automatically makes today a good day!
|
Altra Lone Peak Miles: 8.00 |
|
| | AM-We ran out to Hidden Valley & back. Chloe made an interesting comment, she said "girls are simple." We all laughed at that and had a nice discussion
PM-The Cosby test!!! Going in, you'd think that running for 4 minutes would not be hard, but holy smokes, it is! I got way farther than I did last time though, I think I got around 1550 meters, give or take, hopefully give... But I was proud of the results. Oh, guess what, JOSH MCPHIE BROKE A MINUTE IN THE 400!!!!! Who thought this day would ever come? I personally thought it wouldn't but I guess crazier things have happened, like Scott staying dry for once! Haha

PM-Rocked out some mile repeats at 5:10 pace. We did 4 total with a 400 jog in between for 3 minutes. I hit all of my times, so that was just great! It felt hard, but not hard at the same time, it was a paradox type thingy. Haha, coach had everyone on the team guess where my mission call will be to, so that was cool to see! Hopefully it comes tomorrow!

PM-A nice two mile power run. We were way slow the first mile and then we dropped the hammer on the second mile, so I was pleased. Also, I got my mission call to Tampico Mexico! It was so great

| | Ran out by the Thatchers house with Jake Buenning, that was good. Then I had a church ball game and I gave some 6'6'' kid some trouble in the low post. Stay dry
|
Altra Lone Peak Miles: 6.00 |
|
| | We had 4 mile repeats today, but we had to do them on the road because soccer stuff was all over the track... We did them on the Arizona strip, so it was mostly flat, just a slight incline one way, and a decline the other. The ones with the decline were fine, but the uphill ones where so rough! Oh well, just keep moving forward, it probably builds character and stuff like that.
|
| | AM-A nice easy run out to the bridge, and back
PM-6 mile run along the ridge. I love this run, and Rex came back from Idaho, so that was fun! Scott got sucked into a whirlpool again, poor guy, I think he's drowning. Haha
|
Altra Lone Peak Miles: 6.50 | Aasics GT-2000 Miles: 3.00 |

| | AM-Ran out to the specturm and back, typical Wednesday
PM-Honestly, I had a bit of a rough practice today. I had negative thoughts when I found out we were doing the workout on the track instead of on the road, and that just set me up all wrong. I hit 10:44 for the two mile tempo run, which was about 14 seconds off my pace, but I actually think I was "competent" considering the wind. It's ok though, because I learned from this, and I got feeling better when I came home and listened to some Billy Joel and watched part of Cool Runnings! Haha

Dog Town Half-Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:21:01, Place overall: 14, Place in age division: 10 | | What a fun race! We were just supposed to do a progression run, so me, Rex, and Josh Mcphie went out pretty slow, at about 6:30ish pace, and dropped it down to about 6:15 for the first 5 miles. We consistently dropped our pace after that, and we finished going a little under 5 minute pace. It was super duper fun. Our whole team stuck together pretty well until about mile 10. It was just a fun smooth race, and we got to meet some cool people. I loved it. Haha, afterwards I went to Wingers with Jake Buenning, Trevor, and Bridger, and I ate 8 sticky fingers and a basket of fries. Wow, I can check that off my bucket list, it was so delicious and fulfilling!
|
| | AM-Discovered another hidden valley and the likes
PM-Nice easy run down pole-line road. We scared some hiefers, and ran through the sand. It's been getting pretty hot, but that's ok, it'll keep us nice and dry! Also, we found a nice rib cage out in the desert that looked a little suspicious, my guess is someone upset John and Josh... Oh, I got a massage and a new roller, so that's nice I guess!

PM-We had 6x1000 meter repeats today, and they were pretty tough. It was a little breezy so that made it hard. I started out well, but went a little slow for the next 3, then finished strong on the last two. This is one of those workouts I'm just glad is over, haha, it was still good, and we got to take an Ice bath afterwards!

| | We just had a Kenyan run this morning, and I got to lead. Not everyone stayed in line, and Courtney just complained everytime I did something fun, or she just didn't follow me, which led to dissension in the ranks, but it didn't really matter. I got the milage in, and still had fun! I went up to Brianhead after school, and I was going to try to run there, but it was a full blown blizzard that night, so no beans!

|
| | AM-easy 3...again
PM-10x400m repeats at 67 pace, with a 600m repeat in the middle at the same pace. It was a really good workout, and I hit all of my times. It wasn't to hard at first, but It got hard by the end, kinda like life, but not.

| | AM-Spectrum wednesday and what-not
PM-We had another 20 min tempo run out at the Dixie Center today. I didn't really do to well or hit my time, I think my legs were a little flat, because I had lots of positive thoughts during it. It's always frustrating when you don't hit your times, but there's not much I can do about now, just learn from it and move on with my life. Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail. Today I was the piece of wood the nail was getting hammered into. haha, I just thought of that!

| | AM-3 miles easy and all that jazz
PM-Nice easy Kenyan run with the 4x200 meter finishes with spikes. What a good day. I'm just really happy now because I had a lot of fun playing my last churchball game (sniff). All two people who probably read this blog are probably thinking "why are you playing churchball the night before your first meet?" Well, I'll live my life how I want to, and you live your life how you want to. Haha, just joking, we'll say that it's good cross training!

Hurricane Open (1 Miles) 00:04:50, Place overall: 7 | | AM-Nice easy three
PM-Race at the Hurrican Open today. I definately did not race well, but it's ok because it's all acording to the plan. Haha, I wasn't to stressed about it, my times will drop a ton for sure, once we start doing more speed in practice, but the Cardio is there. It was also as windy as something that's super windy, so that also hurt the time. My only regrets were that some long haired hooligan (I'm just joking about that if you Pine View kids read this) passed me in the last stretch, I tried to keep up with him, but I did not have the pepper! It's ok, I'll have better races other days. The worst part was though, John beat me! ARRRRRR!!!!!!! I vow revenge upon him! Haha

| | I ran 10 miles today, but a little spit up due to traveling. I ran a quick 6 miles in the morning, and then I got in the car and headed up to SLC. I ran another 4 miles on the treadmill while watching BYU beat Loyola Marymont, so that was good. Then I watched my sister do some nice swimming at JOs! She's gonna be amazing! Now I am here in Park City, ready for a fun week. My only concern is that I am able to maintain my running fitness. We won't have hardly any time to run, because we're skiing from dawn to dusk, but I'm making it my goal to find at least the time to run 3 miles each day. That may not sound like much to you people out there, but with skiing, I'll be good, don't you worry.

| | Today was a fabulous day! We got up and went skiing all day long. On the very first run I was going super fast, and I crashed and started sliding down the mountain, which was actually kinda fun. I noticed throughout the rest of the day that my calf and hip was a little tight, but it didn't slow me down, but they are tight and angry! Then I got home, and I had 30 minutes to get my run in before we went to the Jazz game (they barely lost, but it was so fun!!!) Basically I got a .5 mile warm up, 8x1 minute fartleks, and a .3 mile cool down. Hopefully I'll be less tight tomorrow.

Hurricane Invite (1 Miles) 00:04:36, Place overall: 8 | | AM-Good run, no one got hurt, and with John, that's the best you can hope for
PM-I ran the mile at the Hurricane invitational. Two mile warm up and then the race, with a two mile cool down afterwards. I was pretty happy with this race. I beat John, and I also got a lot better time than the last meet. It was so fun to get out and run fast, although I need to be more aggressive on my first lap, but I'll worry about that next race.

Hurricane Invite (2 Miles) 00:10:04, Place overall: 5 | | What a great race! I actually like the 3200 a little now! I was windy, so I just stuck at the back of the front pack. I was hanging with them really well until 800 meters to go. I ran the next lap just behind them, but not close enough to draft, and then I kicked it in the last lap and passed some peeps to finish 5th. Rex laid the hammer down, and that was awesome, I beat Mcphie, but he's not going to let me do that again very easily. It was just a fun race! I heart running!

PM-Race day at PIne View!!! It was super fun! Me and Rex snuck inside the school and found Pine View's super secrest hideout. haha, the meet went great. Me, Rex, Josh, and Kale all koala-ified for state, so I was really exciteded about that. I do think that I can go faster though, I need to be more aggressive and not just let people run all over me

Pine View Invitational (2 Miles) 00:09:53 | | Second day of the meet. I got in the seeded heat of the two mile, so that was super good, I don't think as many people fudged their times as they did in the mile. I wanted to break 10 minutes and koalafy for state, and I did!!! I went a 9:53, and I feel great about it! My new goal is to beat Coach Powell's record of 9:44

PM-A good workout. 1x1600 at 5:19, 4x800 @ 2:24, then 3x300s, and 2x150s. It didn't look fast on paper, but it was a good push. The Ice bath was, well, icy!

PM-Kenyan run, and then some 2 meter finishes. We got a little creative on the Kenyan run, and that was fun! I had to leave earlyish, so I missed team night. But, I got to be on the radio!!! So fun! We've started a D-Hills radio show, and we're called the Thundercast. I've always dreamed of being on the radio, and it's just fun!

| | PINE VIEW RELAYS!!! Pretty much the best meet of the entire season. I ran every event, except the open mile, and it was a blast. Also, I am super duper sore. I rocked out the hurdles, and everyone loved my American Flag shorts, especially Coach Holt, he always brought them up for some reason, I think he was jealous about them...

Dixie Invite (1 Miles) 00:04:32, Place overall: 11 | | It was a pretty good race today. I wanted to break 4:30, but that obviously didn't happen. I could kinda tell it wouldn't, because we started so so so slow! Our first lap was a 1:10, what the? So considering that, I was pretty happy with this .15 second pr! Haha, lots of room to improve though.

Dixie Invite (2 Miles) 00:09:48, Place overall: 7 | | Good race today! Shout out to my main man Rex, for winning, and Kale for winning! So sweet! My race went pretty good also, I got a best time by a couple of seconds, and I beat Mark's High School record, so ha! I wanted to get top 6 and get a medal, but Byron just outran me there at the end, rats! Haha, it was a fun race and a fun day, I say Captain America 2, so how could it not be good?

|
| | Nice run behind the school, the usual adventures, wild dingos jumping out of the bushes, mountain goats, does, etc. I had to skip out on the barefoot striders because I went kayaking with my non-track friends all day, it was super duper fun, and I think my arms will be sore tomorrow...

PM-the 200m endurance workout, probably my favorite track workout, because it's so gnarly. Me, Rex, and Kale all tied for 1st with 36 200s at 33 sec pace, in the furious wind. Coach wouldn't let us keep going, but that's ok! I love it!

| | AM-Did our workout in the morning. It was really hard, we were supposed to hit from 60-64. I hit 3 of them at 65, 3 at 66-67, and 2 at 64. It was ok, definately a super good push! I was feeling pretty good until the last two, I almost fell over, my legs were just dead, but I was able to finish strong, so I now know what that feels like
PM-Me, Joe, and Boston ran an easy 3 miles after the bus trip up north. We ran at about 10pm, so that was pretty fun!

| | AM-Got up early, and ran 3 miles on the treadmill before we had to leave the hotel
PM-Ran 7.5 miles in the poring rain by myself. IT WAS AWESOME! I usually don't like to run alone, but every once in a while it's nice. It felt so good, and I got a nice fartlek workout in, and when I came back I walked to Wingers. I doesn't get much better than that, haha

PM-We did a nice workout. 3 sets, each set consisted of an 800 @ 72 pace, 400 @ 63sec, and a 200 @ 31sec. I hit under most of the times, so that was exciting. I also got a massage, and that felt super good!

BYU Track Invitational (2 Miles) 00:09:42, Place overall: 20, Place in age division: 2 | | A really good 3200m race today. PM-a way tough ladder workout. I wouldn't have been that bad, except for we only had a 100m jog for cool down in between each rep. It was fun though, rocked our world, but it will be good!

Region (1 Miles) 00:04:30, Place overall: 4 | | AM-Nice easy 3
PM-We had region today, I had a pretty good race. I hammered the last lap, but not enough, because I didn't get under 4:30, which was my goal... It's ok though, I will get it at state for sure! I was happy to get fourth, and it was also a PR, so I can't really complain

PM-Day two of region, super eventful. D-Hills swept top four in the 3200, I took 3rd, Kale got dis-koala-fied for dancing with his shirt off by some obnoxious cowboy coach (who put a snake in his boot?), Boston and Joe and Sage, but mostly Boston were flirting with my sister, and Byron's little sister was dirty dancing, and also we won region by a landslide, what fun!

| | We went up to SUU's track today to do a workout. It was pretty fun, we rocked out some really fast 400s, and 300s, and a couple of 150s. It was my last hardworkout, at least as a high school student, but that's happy and sad. I'll definately miss running with the team, but who I'm I kidding, I still got a week to go! It was also fun because we went to Denny's afterward, and just chowed down! I also played racketball later with the Mcphies and Thatchers, rock on people!

| | AM-We were running, then we came upon a valley that was hidden! Then we turned around and ran back to the school

State Track (1 Miles) 00:04:27, Place overall: 5 | | Today was the 1600 in the State Track meet. It went almost perfectly. I had a 3 second PR, and I took 5th. I have no regrets, I was super stoked, I went in ranked tenth, and did much better than that. I started my kick a lot earlier becasue I knew that I didn't have as good a kick as some of the other guys, so up until 100m to go, I was in 3rd, but then Taylor Abel flew past me, and Nephi barely passed me, but I knew I was doing all I could, I was maxed out on speed, so I was happy that I was able to get a medal!

State Track (2 Miles) 00:09:50, Place overall: 3 | | What a great way to finish off my high school career. I took 3rd in the 3200, Rex took 2nd, John took 4th, and Mcphie took 6th, it was fabulous. Garrett and Byron took 1st and 5th respectively, so that was really fun to be on the podium with all of my friends like that. It was a pretty wierd race, because we went out very slow, as in our first mile was around 5:05. The pace really dropped after that, and the next mile was around 4:45, nuts! Haha, I really am going to miss high school races, and the competition and all the people I met, tear drop. Haha, not really. I'm excited to hear about next years team though!
