Personal:

Have been active my whole life, but turned my focus to running in 2006 after deciding to run a marathon.  I really enjoy the training aspect and staying healthy, but mileage has been on the decline over the past 3 years due to work commitments, so focus has turned away from races and more on just staying fit enough to still enjoy getting out.  Moved from Utah to Texas in October 2016 with my wife and 3 month old babe.

B-day today hooray!  A year into my 30's and life is feelin good.  I'm changing my run schedule to Monday - Saturday to get ready for the SLC half in 2 weeks, which means today will be my second day in a row of no running.  Hopefully this will put some extra fuel in the tank for a few more workouts before the half.

Felt some burn in my shin and calves which I've noticed happens when breaking in new shoes, so I'm not too worried about that.  Overall it was a nice run after 2 days off.

Run:

5.01 solo to Dutch Field in 37:48, avg. 7:32 per mile.

2 with Griffin, no watch

Strength:

Planks, side-planks, boat, chair, & warrior III

Did a cut down on the 100S trail after taking Griffin out on his loop.  I felt pretty decent, but am getting anxious to race.  Structured intervals always feel like "work" to me, so after a few weeks I start to get burned out on them.  I guess that's why they're called workouts!  I'm only doing one more abbreviated session like this next week to prime for the race, then a few weeks of just running. : )

Run:

2 with Griffin, no watch,

0.35 to 100S trail,

2 x 1 mile w/ 2:30 rest (splits were 6:07 & 6:17(this one was gradual uphill)),

2 x .50 mile w/ 2:30 rest (splits were 2:57 & 2:59),

4 x .25 mile w/1:30 rest (splits were 85, 84, 86, 84),

2.77 cool-down.

8.46 solo in 1:03:30, avg. 7:30 per mile.

Wasatch SP loop with a couple miles out & back on the 100S trail to make it 10.  I picked it up for miles 6 & 9.  I wanted the pace to be decently fast, but relaxed and am pretty stoked with how it went.

Run:

10.28 in 1:15:11, avg. 7:18 per mile.  Mile 6 in 6:09 & Mile 9 in 6:16.

Beautiful scenery this morning with drifting snow.  Thankfully nothing was sticking to the roads, so running was good.  Felt a little fatigued today from yesterday, so kept the mileage low and did a workout in the middle to keep the legs popping.  Strength when I got home.

Run:

2.30 to the hill,

2 sets of drills & 4 hill sprints,

2.70 back home thru the hood.

Strength:

30 push-ups, planks, side-planks, and core
