Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

Race: Brazil Turkey Trot (3.107 Miles) 00:16:45, Place overall: 1

Visiting my parents for Thansgiving, did the local turkey trot (5k). 45 degrees, overcast, slight breeze. Roads were wet from the rain yesterday, slick in spots. But all in all, great conditions.

Was a loop course from the local YMCA. Had some long inclines and declines, but couldn't really call them hills.

My only competition was the local HS cross country coach. We ran together for just over 2 miles. Then he took a slight lead. I was not feeling super-good, due to being on vacation all week and having a horrible diet, and only running every other day. That, plus doing no workouts since February and being generally out of shape.

But even so, with the nice weather, combined with sea level and a net downhill for the final half-mile, I was able to sum up enough muscle memory to kick hard, and manged to make up the 10m lead, catch the guy with about 20m left, and pass him for the win. Frankly, I think I caught him off-guard, but it still felt good to kick hard down the homestretch.

I think the final time was about 16:40-16:45, based on the other guy's watch (my garmin shut off in the middle, so I have no time or mile splits). The course may have been about 0.05 short, but on the other hand I had to slow down on all of the corners due to the wet road, so I'm going to call it good.

Fun way to start off the Thanksgiving holiday.
