Noon run on dirt path.  I dusted off my heart rate monitor and decided to see how fast I could run 10 miles if I ran at 145 bpm.  I didn't start looking at it until mile 2.  I ran the 1st 5 miles in 38:00 and the next 5 miles at 39:45.   I was getting tired of speeding up and slowing down to try to stay near 145.  I don't think I'll try that again soon.

If you had to speed up and slow down in terms of effort all the time, your HRM was probably malfunctioning, which can happen quite often with electrical interference or if your skin is too dry and you are not sweating much. Either that, or you have a very irregular heart beat, which is not likely.

I think I was trying to stay to close to 145 bpm and I was having a hard time finding the perfect effort to keep me at 145. If I try it again I'll give myself a range of 140-150. Also the dirt path I was running on changes from dirt to wood-chips to grass to bumpy dirt so I had to gage by effort and not by speed due to the changing running surface.
