Morning run, no wind, temp 58'

Felt better than I thought I would even though I ran hard yesterday.

Miles 6,  Time 44:15,  Mile Avg. - 7:23

------------------------------------------------------------------

Noon run, sunny, breezy, temp 80'

My legs were tired.  I started getting a side ache before I'd gone 1/2 a mile and I was running very easy.  The side ache went away after about a mile.  After a couple of miles I started feeling a little better and I ran the second to last mile in 6:45.

With 3 runs in 20 hours I got a taste of the relay.    I think this made me a little more metally prepared for the race.  Realizing the last leg will be difficult.

Miles 5,  Time 37:30,  Mile Avg. - 7:30

Good work. For the relay, I discovered that proper eating in between the legs makes quite a bit of a difference. What worked very well for me was honey on whole wheat bread with some water for the fluids. I was not limited by the fuel in the Del Sol relay, only by the lack of the neural drive from not sleeping. To address that I had my teammates sing me BINGO in the middle of the second and third legs.

You'll do great, even with such a difficult last leg. Just make sure your team mates have lots of ice water ready and that they wait for you at several points along the way (Tom should be a big help as he ran the upper part of that stretch last year). You also might want to leave your watch in the van so the focus is just on doing your best and not worrying about hitting a specific time.

I'm glad you (Sasha) suggested whole wheat bread and honey. I was thinking about doing that and you confirmed it. Thanks.

Kerry, I handn't really thought about it or realizing that my legs wouldn't be fresh for the last leg like they are before you run a race. But it won't be a problem it's just getting metally prepared.
