Qualify for Boston Marathon. Personal: Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.
"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

| | Noon: Temp upper 60's, breezy w/ sunshine. GB from FF Memorial to Les Bois Park. Tempo run-15 min w/u; 30 min @ threshold (6:53, 6:55, 7:02, 6:59, +); 10 min c/d. This felt harder than usual but I haven't done any non-easy running in a while. Hammie felt good but it's a little twingy as I type this. Note: It's raining in Saint George today. Maybe this will usher in a cooling trend and some fall weather in the desert? 4 x 25=100 pushups. Been doing this for a week. Next week I'll increase to 5 sets. |

615AM: Easy recovery run. Chilly, mid 40's. Broke out the gloves for the first time this fall. I hope this is a sign of sustained cooler temps and that we don't revert back to an Indian summer. A little bit of hammie/glute soreness from yesterday's workout but not bad. I think this might be the last run for these Lunaracers. 5 x 25 pushups. |

| | 8PM: Easy + fast finish, last mile @ 7:22/mi. Spent three hours standing in the sun watching my son's JV football game so I was a little drained. First run in my new Saucony Kinvara 3's. Love the new feel. More room and cushioning in the forefoot. 4x 25 pushups |

| | Noon: Short hill workout on MR Trails. Pushed the downhill harder this time. Starting to get more comfortable and not braking so much. Only workout for today as I'm going 20 mi tomorrow. |

| | 630AM: Long run on Boise River GB from Glenwood to Barber and back. Battled stomach issues throughout which forced me to take 2 urgent pit stops at miles 8 and 18. I thought about taking PREV but it always leaves me constipated I can live with that following a goal race but not during training. Anyway, I fought through it and followed through with my plan to finish the last 1.5M @ 7:30 pace. This is good mental training for fighting through fatigue late in a race and still being able to increase turnover. Probably, my last 20 miler in this mini-marathon cycle. I usually do 4-5 in a longer cycle. We'll see if 2 is enough. SGM in 3 weeks. One more good week to 10 days of harder training before I start to taper. Don't feel like my decreased mileage this summer/fall warrants a longer taper. |
