Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

930PM: Easy 50 min run. Super busy Saturday. T-Ball + Track Meet + B-Day party = no long run. Will try tomorrow. It's a key MP workout so no way I can blow it off. FWIW, felt really good tonight. Could have gone much harder but held back to save it for tomorrow.

How'd the long run go, and more importantly, did you get any home runs in your tee ball game?

I'm a player/coach on my sons team. I totally owned those 5 yr olds yesterday. Hit for the cycle + 6 RBIs. I don't know if you know this but I'm kind of good at baseball. ;).

Long run went great. Just posted my recap. I think it might also qualify me for the Eco-challenge.

Hey, just like Pete Rose - did you bet money on the game as well?

I know what you're talking about with the hawk - I saw one on the golf course one time pick up a chipmunk or squirrel - something decent-sized - about a hundred yards away. One of the coolest things I've seen.

Great run - Flatlander told me one time that he thought if you can do 15 miles in training at your MP, you can do it for 26 in a race, and I think that is spot-on based on my last couple cycles(given similar weather conditions anyway).

Yes, exactly like Mr. Hustle. I'm not saying any $ changed hands. Let's just say that I went with an "alternate" lineup.

At the risk of sounding too self-interested, I'd say that flat lander's comment & your experience are pretty accurate. It's hard to replicate the same effort level in training & you also have the advantage on running on "fresh" legs come race day if you taper correctly. I think another factor besides weather is course profile. If your legs don't get hammered too much, you can really take advantage of the downhill in Utah. We'll see what happens but today's workout was definitely encouraging.
