Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

6AM: Easy recovery run. Wasn't raining when I left the house but it was pouring by the time I returned. Sped up the last mile because I was terrified that the rain would soak threw my pocket and damage my iPhone.

Tomorrow is my last long run (17M) as I'll begin a 2 week taper for UVM.  The Pfitz Plan calls for a 3 week taper but I'll log 65M this week v. the 53-55mpw he recommends. I find that a 2 week taper is more than enough.  Actually, I think a 1 week taper would probably be enough.

Nice week of running Neil, I will have to agree with you that 2 weeks of taper is more then enough, enjoy it though and we will have to catch up with each other at UVM. Will be running COT in Boise also this year.

Thanks Marlin. I'll look for you down in Provo. FYI: I'll be hanging with the the 3:15 pace group, at least for the first half and then try to pick up the pace a tad in the second half. Regards.

I did a 3 week taper for my last race (partly due to getting sick 3 weeks out) and it was definitely too much. I was running as fast as I ever have...about 10 days before the race. Then felt sluggish in the last few days before the race. So, short story long, I like that you are adding miles to Pfitz's taper.
