Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Began the long road back with a short, slow run. So slow that I'm almost embarrassed to have my neighbors see me plodding along. I like to think that this is the moment i begin in earnest but I hesitate to make any commitments given the on again off again nature of my post-surgery recovery. Back actually felt fine, it was that darn piriformis/high hamstring tendonapothy that continues to plague me. That's something I feel like I can manage though, I've dealt with it for so long. I've been doing a lot of strength exercises and I even lost 7 lbs in the last 3 weeks of April after beginning my conversion to veganism and with very little exercise. So I'm hopeful that as I work myself back into running shape and run 6 days a week, running will feel normal again.

Neil

I am glad you are running again, and I hope your recovery goes well and you are in race shape soon.

Good to see this! Hoping this is the start of the road back. I'm impressed you're still on the vegan diet, congrats. One day my cholesterol will force me to do something about my diet...

Keep it up!

Glad you are feeling good enough to run. Keep up your spirits and fitness and you will be accomplishing your goals (running or otherwise). Glad the diet is working for you too!

Soounds like life is staying busy, sorry we won't be able to catch up with one another. We are there and out quickly...in Friday afternoon, out Saturday afternoon.

Thanks Jeff. I'm going to try to see you finish Saturday and still make it to my Bball game, so run fast! ;)
