2.5 mile warm up including strides, 4X400 on the track, jogging in between each, 2 mile cool down

My first "workout" in FOR-EV-ER.  I have my work cut out for me in order to get back into racing shape! My 400s were 87, 83, 84, 81 and I was working hard near the end!  Its hard to believe a couple of years ago I ran a 15K in 5:22 pace and now even getting close to that pace and trying to hold it for a quarter of a mile sends me into oxygen debt.  Its official: I am currently OUT OF SHAPE.  I already knew that of course but seeing it manifest so drastically in a workout is eye opening. The good news is that I am already pretty close to my healthy racing weight, so most of the work will be in strengthening my heart, lungs, and legs.

I've been thinking about racing again. Thinking that maybe if I at least have a GOAL race in mind, it might help motivate me to start doing workouts and running every day again.  But the Bolder Boulder is too soon and too long of a race to get fit for in time.  I need something shorter.  The past few summers Aaron and the kids have done this Boulder summer race series including a 3K, 2K and Mile. In the past I've always cheered from the sidelines and trained for longer races but this summer I think I'll race too!  Besides, what better way to come back to fast running than to run short, and FAST?  The first race in the series is the West End 3K on June 5th.  Here we go again! Time to crack the whip!

Sweet! Having a race in mind is a great motivator. Rena Chesser wanted to PR in the 800 after her twins..... She got in amazing shape and ran a 2:06! Not to mention all the steeple races she ran. I like the sound of a 3k!
