Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. And make sure to share it with your friends.

Great start to my day! As I was walking through the parking lot into my classrom, I was bombed with about a pound of pidgeon poop. "Showered" in the bathroom sink and changed into a race t-shirt from my running bag.

AM: 2 mile walk/jog around Sandy. Seriously, I ran about half of it so I'm giving myself a mile.

PM: Nice afternoon. Ran a mile on the treadmill at the Sandy gym waiting for my runners to get to the gully. Then I ran 8.25 in the gully - first half with the boys then I doubled back to run with the girls. They managed sub 8 minute pace coming down. I was happy with their effort.

Then I went to the new Fort Union Trader Joe's to pick up some milk, cereal, flowers, and chocolate. And let me just say that Utah Trader Joe's should be called "Sort-of Trader Joe's" because of the absence of Two Buck Chuck. It just isn't the same.

Then I picked up Abby at swim practice, went home and has a dinner of Sloppy Joe's and broccoli.

McFarland USA opens tomorrow. Anyone want to go see it with me? I've got to see a movie on cross country running just out of principle.

I told you, Ullr would be angry that you compared NC skiing to Little Cottonwood Canyon. He controls snow more than bird crap, but I'm sure he is friends w/ whatever god specializes in that area.

You're probably right. I think the pidgeon was coming from the direction of the Canyon.

Wish I was in the valley. I'd love to go see it with you.

From Jon on Thu, Feb 19, 2015 at 20:01:04 from

Let us know how the movie is. I might have to go see it. Heck, if you fly to SC, I'll go see it with you here. I'll even buy your movie fare.

From Jason D on Thu, Feb 19, 2015 at 20:47:42 from

I don't go to the movies because it's the one thing I'm cheap about but I want a review.

I guess this how George Washington felt when he started the 7 years war and built a fort in a ditch haha

I used to work at that location of Trader Joe's when it was formerly Albertson's. Back when I was younger:) Good times and a decent paying job even if it was a graveyard shift..

I'll go with you to go see McFarland. If it's good I'll take my boys later on to see it. I've got the youngest interested in running, it's the older one I need to inspire somehow.

Sounds good Steve. I'd love to have some of those Ashbaker genes on my Alta XC team!

From steve ash on Fri, Feb 20, 2015 at 20:31:53 from

The genetics are definitely there. On his Mom's side of the family their Uncle in college ran a crazy 400 meter time of something like 47-49 seconds.. He was a decathlete at BYU.

I couldn't even run that in my best dream.
