Five easy trail miles along the Piedras River in southern Colorado - bout 40 miles east of Durango. Staying ant a nifty cabin on national forest land. Have a twelve mile long dirt road in front of my cabin that runs up the Piedras River Valley. Great run planned for the morning before heading back to Salt Lake. The kids and Ann went horseback riding while I ran. We were actually thinking of driving all the way back today but we stumbled on these cabins, probably built in the 20s or 30s, and had to stay. $72.00/night and it's the classic old knotty pine cabin with a full kitchen including 1950s era refrigerator. No TV, no cell phone reception, no wi-fi. We are a few miles down the road now at the Chimney Rock Taven which has free foosball, shuffleboard, and wi-fi. www.chimneyrockrestaurantandtavern.com May be a new favorite place. Almost perfect for running.
