I'm planning my Summer. One of the nice things about being a teacher is the Summer months. I try to think of it as a time for self improvement and family vacations. I've applied for two week-long American history seminars through the Gilder-Lehrman Society and I'll find out whether I get accepted in a couple weeks. I chose my two based mostly on suitability for running. One is in Santa Fe' and one is in Boulder. Both places I wouldn't mind training in for a week.

I also want to do a trip north or northwest. I'm reading a book now by Elliot West from the University of Arkansas who is one of the preeminent historians of Native Americans and The West in general. It's about Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce. Turns out West is teaching the course I applied for in Santa Fe'. So I'm thinking we need to do more Nez Perce/Lewis and Clark stuff and some camping up in Idaho and Montana. That would maybe be an opportunity to stay the night with the Shadley family in Idaho Falls too.

Those would be some great places to spend some time in the summer. I'll gladly join you in Sante Fe or Boulder for a long weekend!! Those are the cheapest places to fly to from SLC.

If I get accepted I'll get a stipend to pay for my travel and lodging.

Sounds like a lot of fun. 3 months of travel, adventure, and learning.
