Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Michelle! It was so nice to meet you at the marathon! You are amazing for coming out and supporting all the runners and the blog! I have a funny story: I saw you the first time, w/ your FRB poster, and (this is how delirious I must get running) I was wondering, , hmmmm what does that stand for? I know WBR is Wasatch Back Relay, what in the world does FRB stand for? IT gave me something to think about for a minute, but I still didn't figure it out until I saw you the 2nd time by the trail. Then it came to me, , FAST RUNNING BLOG! A light went on, maybe it was the gu I had taken and my brain had some sugar, ha ha, but I was laughing at myself bc I was even wearing the blog shirt!! :) Then it was so great to see you at that big turn when you showed me your crutches! I hope in yelling out, "I know you" didn't scare you, ha ha, I just feel like I know you so well from reading your blog. THanks again for your support . . . Maurine gave you a nice tribute on her blog, I think her Sunday post, you should read it if you haven't! Take care, hope the pain stays to a 0! . . . Forever!

Just wanted to say thanks for cheering me on (along with everyone else) at 3 places during the race Saturday. I needed some motivation at mile 22 and seeing you sidelined with the injury made me want to not take my relative health for granted and helped me hold on!! I would think it would be very easy for somebody to be bitter about the situation and be a recluse, but you are out cheering on the others. Thank you and hope things take a turn for the better soon.
