Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Looks like your speed is returning.

Look, for about 5 minutes we could run together and I could keep up with you! I know I mentioned this in my race report, but I seriously kept a vision of your intensity while running in my mind thinking of you'd just put the pedal to the metal and keep on. It was a good image for me and it gave me courage. How are you feeling after the runs? Like you want to do more, or do you have pain afterwards. I hope it's the latter. Listen, I posted a topic on the discussion board that no one will answer, will you give me a line or two about a sensible recovery plan? All I know is good protein, slower running--but how much, how far, how to know when you are 'recovered.' Have a great day!

Hi Luz -- I posted an answer to your question. But, I agree, Michelle is "da bomb" (as are you, of course).

Wow, a response to my terse blog post. Metcalf--thanks, yeah I am trying. Didn't feel so cold or fat today so was able to do alright.

Luz--thanks! I definitely usually have more guts than ability. After the runs I feel the same as before. My SI on the right feels a bit different, and my right ham is still tight and not right, but there's no real pain, and no difference before or after. I often want to run more, but 4 miles feels so much longer than it did a year ago! I like Smooth's response, it is like a reverse taper, with a difference. In a taper you do intense workouts with shorter duration. I wouldn't do any sprints until you feel like you are dying to do them or three weeks from now, the latter of the two. I have no answer about eating right. Protein and veggies sound good to me.

Bonnie--now you are being silly :D
