Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran from the finish line 1.5 miles then back.  My bum hurt when I woke up, but the run and lots of stretching after made it feel much better, almost all gone, after.  Which was good because I didn't want to go to elite bib pick up with a limp.

I had an elite bib, but when I went to pick up my bib, I realized how dramatically I was a second class elite runner.  Third class would be more accurate.  The elite athletes were staying at the Marriott Butte Resort, and had their meals provided and brought to them for the whole trip, and they were shuttled around (to see course, for press conference, to and from race).  I was invited but not required to attend the "technical meeting" at 4pm and the dinner afterward, so I went.  I was also able to drive to the resort the morning of the race and drive on the elite shuttles to the start of the race and back to the resort after, so I did get a bit of a taste of the sweet life.

I met some runners, but alot of them already knew each other so it was a bit like being an ugly girl (a slow elite runner) on her first day of attending a new high school.  The ones I dared introduce myself to ended up being very nice and kind to me.

Lion Queen, no doubt, with Gwen, you will give it your Lion's best. There are no ugly girls, they are all special.

It is always difficult to feel out of place, confidence wins.

Best of luck in the race.

Lion Queen, read your race report and the comments. You do have the heart of a lion. I have always said, if you feel your in shape, get a race plan and go for it, you did, no regrets, no regrets. I have had many races like yours over the years, some good, a few great and many no so great. But, the key, is always, you gave it your best.

The lion queen still roared, she will circle her prey again many times and will have a great hunts.

Stay Kool, Great is as great does, B of BS Rools out

By the way, I am with you, really like Bonnie, great person.

I didn't want everyone on the tread to suffer with my belayed comments.
