Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran 1 mile with harness, met up with Doug and Jill at about .8 miles, embarrassed to have that thing on, but took it off as soon as my watch beeped one mile.  My legs felt not so great from the start.  Had mild soreness at SI joint for the first 5 miles, which gradually increased.  Stopped to stretch at 1.7 miles and that's where Josse joined me.  At about 5.5 miles, a more major pain shot down my leg and then my SI joint, whole right leg didn't feel right.  We got to our cars a 6.15 miles.  I wanted to run 7 but that wasn't wise, so I stretched some, and we hopped on our bikes.   Problem was, it was cold.  My hands were painfully cold by 2 miles into the bike ride, and I asked if we could turn just after 4.5.  Problem was, it was even colder going the other direction.  I curled my fingers into my gloves, and tried not to think about frostbite.  Josse humored me and let me talk taxes for a bit.   She humors me in general, I appreciate her!  I was in pain driving home, fingertips so, so cold.  I found I wasn't breathing because of the pain so I started taking deep breaths.  Well that led to what seemed like a panic attack (hyperventillating, senses dulling), which I have only had once before.  No pain in the chest though.  Got home somewhat dazed and confused, but I took a hot bath and am now feeling better/normal (for me :) normal's relative).

Ave pace for run 8:47.  Did that include some rest?  Not sure.

Wow!! I am glad that you made it to the top of the mountain /home in one piece. That is scary, I hope you get feeling better real soon. Tempo runs are boring by your self.

I would like to see a picture of you in the harness. I am having a hard time imagining what it looks like!

Michelle- you can't go dying. Bike riding is SO so cold! Darn that cute bum of yours! What is it's problem?? Polliwogs and gobble-dee-gook! I don't know what that means, but I think it is family safe cursing ;)

Ouch. double ouch. digits and joints, fingers and toes, ouch.

How is the SI joint now?

From MichelleL on Sun, Mar 15, 2009 at 12:19:22 from 67.41.191.61

Bonnie-SI joint felt pretty good all day, just some minor soreness. I iced it twice, took some aleve.

Marion-thanks for the family safe cursing ideas :)

Britta-fat chance

Tyler-I'm afraid I won't be able to tempo with you for a while unless I'm on a bike, then I'll kick your butt!

What is supposed to be the benefit of the harness?

Dang - that sounds cold. I ran to Leslie's house and back one day last week and my hands were so cold I was almost crying and couldn't open my garage door because I couldn't unbend my fingers. I feel your pain....
