Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Lehi legacy center pool.

90 minutes of pool running.  Hard workout. easy minutes in parentheses 12 warm up, then 1 (1) 2 (1) 3 (2) 4 (3) 5 (4) 4 (3) 2 (1) 1 (1) 2 (1) 1 then 5 easy, exhausted.  Knew I wanted to be in the pool for 90 minutes but wanted hard minutes to truly be hard.  Did 1 hard, 1 easy x 10 after that because I couldn't muster much more.  Then cool down.  Could see the runners on the track and thought it was cruel to place them in view.  Found out that pool running can make you want to upchuck.  But I held it in.  Nice hard workout.

Unfortunately my SI joint is just a tad sore from it.  Theoretically crosstraining shouldn't hurt it, but it was also a little sore after my 2 hour bike ride.  Apparently it wants rest rest, not alternate training.  I'll chew on it, and perhaps keep crosstraining to 60 minutes?  Atrophy!!!

Great workout! Really, truly cool! :)

DAng that stupid bum! Dang it all to heck!!! Well, if rest rest is what it wants, the next 16.5 days may be the most perfectly placed rest ever. I know that is no consolation, but it's all I could come up with. Want to go out for dessert tomorrow night? :D I can make you some, "my life sucks" brownies :) or fried ice cream at Mi Rancherito? I could even bust out the fudge recipe :) Good idea, eh? No running and MORE crap food :) I am a genius!

New Smith's lyrics-

"Running friends bum is broken and I, I know it's serious!"

name that tune ;)

Dang it, the longer I am up today the more it hurts. This is so depressing.

If I were in a coma at least I'd be healing. Maybe more sleep is the answer.

I am so sorry for you but great job on the workout. When I was injured I just" threw in the towel" but not you, you just keep on going. Good job!

I would get some soreness in my sciatic and SI joint after crosstraining. I do think our bodies just need a rest form all types of exercise. Unfortunately our brains can't handle it.

very nice workout. sorry you are still feeling sore. i don't have any advice that you haven't already heard from everyone else...but just hang tough, you'll be back soon enough...and your legs will be fresh.

PS: i read your post on the discussion forum..."run on my hands" cracked me up. maybe you can start a new event??? :)
