Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Went to one of Mary Ann's races.  Brought the kiddies and a sitter and ran with Mickie as he raced and won the 200m!  And JJ came in third after one of Sue's kids.  Sweet!  Mickie won $4 which he was so excited about.

I thought this would be a fun family activity, and I could do a tempo (marathon pace, about 7:00 for me right now?  but really not sure of fitness) if my legs felt good, or just jog it if they didn't.  They felt good, and Sue took off at the start.  I settled into third place, 6:30ish pace.  Caught the UVU chick before the mile marker and started running with Ben Cozier. We ran together until about mile 2 marker, then I pulled away some.  Didn't want Sue to win because I was slowing.  She stayed strong throughout the race, I started to close the gap, but my effort was probably 10k - 1/2 marathon pace and I didn't want to push it any more.  I did yell at her to kick it in when we were about 150m from the finish (wanted her to earn the win :) ).  My legs felt good.  I would say really good, but there still was some slight soreness, but nothing sharp or painful, certainly not like last week.  Hesitated to mark this as a race report, but it was a race and I was registered, so here it is.

Splits:

6:31

6:49

6:33

5:54 pace for .15.

The bad thing was that this felt harder than it should have.  Oh well.  Make peace with where you are.

(no driving miles since took kids and made it a family rec activity)

Nice run! I was worried about your injury and am SO glad to see that it is OK :) Sounds like you had a great time with your boys :) I'm glad you had some competition at the race :)

Great job. How's the injury? Almost 100%?

From MichelleL on Sat, Mar 21, 2009 at 17:08:04 from 67.41.191.61

I keep hoping I could write 100% but not there yet. I feel some soreness still, and I did have pain while running Wednesday, so maybe 70-80%?

Congrats! You did a great job and it is good to see you are starting to feel better.

I could hear you getting closer and was sure you were just going to fly by me at the end. I heard you yell and that helped me kick it a little at the finish but honestly I had nothing left. Let's face it, your injury running speed exceeds my race speed. You could have easily passed me but it was wise of you to let that heal. Thanks for the encouragement. Your awesome. I would love some feedback on what you saw at the race.

Thanks everyone!

Sue - you could hear me because I was breathing hard because I am out of shape! But I would have come up limp in an attempt to pass you. You ran a strong race.

Great race to all of you - get those vibes going with the boys early. It sounds like you made a wise choice to have a hard tempo run without pushing injury. What point would a win have been if it pushed your training back a step?

Sure you will do a tempo run with out me! I about died when I opened your blog and saw that you had a race report!!! Good job!
