Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

First workout since the marathon.  If you count a stride workout as a workout.  Felt good though.  Good to go fast, good to feel comfortable running fast, despite the bit of weight I have gained.  This is the holiday season of abandon, gluttony, sloth and indolence (perhaps not that far, but if I want to, I will).  I feel like I need to do this to get the last four years of food psychosis out of my system.  So many treats, so little time :D  Ok, back to the workout. 65 minutes total.  Warmed up 35 minutes (4:53 ave pace/k) then did 30 sec on/ 60 sec off x 10.  Averaged 3:29.5/k pace.  Will be easing back into training.  Have  a half Jan 2 and in February, a 25k in April, will look for a marathon in late May/June.

No Boston?

Hey Josse, can't do Italy and Boston and hard to justify passing up my first offer for a paid trip for a race when I will see you all in the summer. I am close to buying our plane tickets for the summer. We really are coming home this summer. I would say I am excited to race in Utah but the altitude is going to kick my butt! But we will do lots of group runs, and those will be fun!

A stride workout definitely counts as a workout when its the first one, post-marathon! Glad to see you are feeling good and ready to get back after it.
