Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Dang birds woke me up at 5:40 when I have every intention of sleeping until 6am. Well, I thought laying in bed would give my body rest too, just not as much as sleeping. So I laid in bed until my alarm went off. As I drove down to Loafer Elementary I saw Beth running up Loafer Canyon, so I stopped my car and joined her, even though she was going up the dreaded loafer canyon and I avoid hills when I can. We ran together for just under 6 miles. It was nice to have my first run with her since she's had her baby. She has kept in great shape. After I dropped her off at her car I kept running and did 6 strides. My legs were really tired. I think they are feeling "You're running in the 70's and you're banging us up." I'm just not used to the two a day (even though my second run has been very easy it is a different feeling). The strides went well despite leg fatigue. It felt good to do some quick leg turnover, even if for only 30-40 seconds at a time.

weight 124 - I've been stable in my weight since Ogden, so perhaps I'm not going to go any lower. Hmm. If I can run fast at this weight I am happy with it. I just assumed I had to get down to where I was in January (122 a whopping two pounds lighter) and even lower since most elites at my height are in the teens.

PM running with Benji at 4.30 in the afternoon, very hot but we kept to the shadiest parts of the park, 1.5 with him

I have the same problem as a boy as you. I weigh a comfortable (and hydrated 150 lbs). Most of the guys are 135-140 and some (Paul) are like 125 or something.

But I don't really see anywhere I can loose anymore- so I'll have to take what I can get at this weight.

To some degree, our weight is predetermined based on body type, bone density, etc. But I don't think it makes a big difference- for example, Logan has much bigger legs and weighs more than Paul but they are both dang fast.

Thanks for the comments guys (and gal ;)).

I just need to eat right and train right, and any excess weight will fall off on its own or I'll just have to keep packing it around :)

Steve - the shins has been fine. Just some occasional twinges, but the right is still sore from the deep, hard work Dr. Brady did on it last Thursday. If anyone tried to work on it right now it'd be the surest way to get me to sprint the other direction!

Yeah, running weight is a fickle thing. Last year I weighed 170 at Christmas (don't ask) and had to get above 60 mpw before I started dropping any weight, eventually getting down to 145-150. This year I weighed 150-155 at Christmas, started losing weight at 40-50 mpw, and have settled around 137-142. And my weight will vary 3 pounds for no reason. Like you said, eat right and train right and your body will take care of itself.

Goodness! I weigh more than most of you men, and I'm not even overweight! I would love to lose 15 lbs though.

Anyway, Michelle, I think you look great, and you are running so well that any "excess" weight probably isn't a negative. And I'm glad to hear your shins are better.

I weigh more than all of you! eeck! I need to loose weight - it just does not happen easily. I have made some major changes in my diet over the last few weeks and I fell better but no weigh loss yet. Probably due to low miles. I am in no way brave enough to post my weight.
