Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Indoor warmup:  walked 5 min, then stretching.

Warmed up by myself a bit on the SF track, then met TylerS.  Melody and Mack bailed.

2.31 miles warmup.

Plan was 6 x 1600m repeats, with 800m rest.  My pace range was 5:50-6:03, and my coach said to do 5-7, so I chose 6 and wanted just hit in the slower part of the pace range.  It was windy on the track, so after the first mile repeat, Tyler and I traded quarters.

1 - 5:58,  4:56 rest

2 - 5:59, 4:52 rest

3 - 5:58, 5:00 rest

4 - 5:58, 5:01 rest

5 - 5:56, 5:15 rest

6 - 5:55 and done!

The fifth was hard, the 6th was worse.  The good news is that 6:00 pace seems hard but not like a sprint or like V02 max.  So I think I am getting more fit!  I am so grateful to be able to run like this again.  I have to soak it up while it lasts.  I appreciate Tyler hanging in during the workout.  It takes alot of resolve to do mile repeats, and I appreciate the company, especially in the wind.

Marion and Luz came over last night with killer cakes.  I am still indulging.  I think the cakes made me extra fast!  Hooray for sugar!

FYI ~ The USTAF has chosen Houston to host the men and women Olympic trials in 2012 on Jan. 14. I think it's neat that both the men and women will be held on the same day, the day before the Houston Marathon.

Thanks Susanna! I saw Allie's post. I think that is good to have the trials timing at the same time for the men and the women. in 2008 the men's seemed too early and the women's seemed too late.

Sorry to bag out on you! Awesome workout. You didn't need anyone pushing you. Way to go on a fast but not "hard to you" workout!

And you totally would have made the BYU team :)

Very good workout Michelle, you are doing awesome! Why didn't you run at the Salem Hills High School track? Its closer and theres no wind;-)

Yes, one of those miles would put me down for a while and it would have to be downhill. So so soooooo speedy :D.

Congrates on 6:00 not feeling like a sprint. That is a huge accomplishment.
