Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Indoor warm up: .5 walking and stretching.

Interesting workout today.  4x2000m (pace 6:05-6:18, so 7:36-7:52, 3 min rest), then 3x200m (200m rest)

Met MacK and TylerS at 5am for an early start to a workout.  Temp was 22F.

Warmed up 2.16 in 17:34.

1 - 7:50, 2 - 7:44, 3 - 7:40, 4 - 7:39,  we used Tyler's watch for 1.25 segments, I am not sure if that is slightly more or less than 2000m, but its by garmin, anyway, so inexact.  all the rests were less than 3 minutes because we were going by Tyler's watch and he set the rests to be .25 mile. Then we ran to the track, so got in a mile between the 2000m and 200m sets, 1-35, 2-35, 3-35.  The first split is inexact because I was trying to find the spot on the track where the 200m ended, so it might be +/- 1, but the other two were dead on.  Then cooled down back to my car, over two miles.

11.5 miles of running total.

At home did power lunges and ball grab, then endurox.  I will have to exempt endurox from the no sugar challenge.  I am not sure what it has in it, but my coach wants me drinking it after workouts, so I do.

Thank you MacK and Tyler for running with me.  It makes the workouts much better to have company and positive pressure.

Rests- 2:37.96, 2:39.58, 2:41.15. My watch was set on km, not miles so I am confident that they are close. Great job today, glad that it is over and that I survived.

2000m = 1.25 miles so the garmin should be accurate. BTFW (by the freaking way!) You are a SUPER TRACK STAR!! I don't think I could hit one 200m in 35 seconds. I struggled to get one 39 last year. You are so back at it in awesome shape. So excited for you and to see how awesome you do this year. YAY!!

Just curious, where do you get all your different workouts from and how do you decide on which ones to do for a specific week?

Thanks for the comments everyone. It's so wonderful to be able to do hard workouts again and I am so grateful.

Jeff-I got tired of coaching myself and I hired Greg McMillan as a by-email coach. It helps me to not worry about whether I am pushing myself too much or too little.

What are power lunges, ball grab, and no sugar challenge. Your weight looks awesome!!! I am still struggling. Any suggestions for motivation?
